RDK Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 Now I know I have my head in the sand when it comes to this sort of stuff, but did you guys realize that Kenny G. has actually covered Monk? http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&t...10:5rk9ikz0bb69 Quote
AfricaBrass Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 Poor Monk! The thrillseeker in me wants to hear it, but I don't know if I'll be able to deal with the nightmares that surely will come if I listen to it. That's the album with that Louis Armstrong duet.... CRINGE! If Mr. G ends up doing a duet with Coltrane, it just might push me over the edge... Quote
.:.impossible Posted March 5, 2005 Report Posted March 5, 2005 "They called him Monk because he would close his eyes when he was playing piano, like he was praying. That is why he his all those wrong notes. His eyes were closed and he would hit the wrong notes." - Garelick Quote

Big Al Posted March 5, 2005 Report Posted March 5, 2005 Pretty sure it is. And even if it ain't, it still is! Quote
AfricaBrass Posted March 5, 2005 Report Posted March 5, 2005 (edited) Pretty sure it is. And even if it ain't, it still is! Good! I can be a little gullible... The sad part is that I could really see him saying something stupid like that; especially after his holding a note for 45 minutes stunt. Didn't he know that Rahsaan Roland Kirk did the same thing every night while playing two instruments at the same time and playing things that Kenny G couldn't even imagine... AfricaBrass Posted March 5, 2005 Report Posted March 5, 2005 Agree with every point completely! You got me! Quote
Guy Berger Posted March 5, 2005 Report Posted March 5, 2005 If Mr. G ends up doing a duet with Coltrane, it just might push me over the edge... His next project is a duet with Coltrane, over both versions of Ascension. Guy Quote

I'm not sure... he said something equally stupid about Bird a while back, something about how he got his name because his reed squeaked. Now, Kenny G might actually be joking, but in this case I think the lameness of the music reflects the lameness of the man. Guy Quote
