Bluerein Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 Hello all, Is it the fruit of my imagination or did I see a CD issue of this nice Blue Note LP sceduled for release later this year somewhere??? Quote
JSngry Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 Always avoided this one, and had ample opportunities to do otherwise. How is it, anyway, all things considered? Quote
jazzbo Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 Incredible sounding ride cymbal from Mickey Roker! Quote
Dan Gould Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 Its far from his best, but its not unlistenable. Quote
Dan Gould Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 Is it the fruit of my imagination ... As long as its not the fruit of anything else .... Quote
jazzbo Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 Yes, I'd agree, it will be a nice reissue if/when it comes out. Quote
JSngry Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 Incredible sounding ride cymbal from Mickey Roker! Well, if that's not a stirring recommendation, I don't know what is! Quote
Shawn Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 It's not great...but even mediocre Turrentine...is...well...TURRENTINE!!!!! Quote
Bluerein Posted April 27, 2005 Author Report Posted April 27, 2005 So it's not going to be reissued by Water or another label? I know for sure MC won't do it since he dislikes it. I like it a lot but I'm a Turrentine nut and like strings. Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted May 1, 2005 Report Posted May 1, 2005 Both The Look of Love and its companion poece Always Something There are well worth hearing if you dig Stanley T and don't have an aversion to orchestration and '60s pop. Sure the're kinda Austin Powers dippy/cheesey but to me that's part of the fun. (Compared to them, Rough & Tumble is the straight & narrow.) Bought at least one of those two at a now defunct store in Drumheller Alberta, either on the way to or the way from Saskatoon. I think both mine copies are on the dreaded applause. I think they'd both fit on one CD (maybe I'll check). It would make sense to do them that way if they did fit and market them beyond the core jazz audience... Myself, I'd like to see a dbl CD of some of the still only partially issued 'mid-sized' band sessions immediatley preceeding these two; what I've heard on Ain't No Mt. High Enuff, etc. is v. tasty w/ v. little cheese. And, yes, the fact that the're on BN does have something to do with it... Quote
Brad Posted May 4, 2005 Report Posted May 4, 2005 I'm not seeing real recs here. Sounds like one to be avoided. Quote
Pete B Posted May 4, 2005 Report Posted May 4, 2005 IMO life's too short to spend listening to dreck like this. Once was enough. Quote
