Dan Gould Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 And when I called he said he was just finishing his lunch - a sammich! Just kidding about the sammich part. But I did send him a copy of the Four Sounds demo along with some questions about the group, and while I need to call him next week when he has more time, it looks like he's interested in doing an interview with me! Cool beans - I'm gonna have a chance to chat with the drummer of the Three Sounds. The former GHF is almost as excited as he was when the 78 arrived. Oh, and one thing he said about that Boddie Recording studio - he said the guy was recording them all the time while they rehearsed, and that the guy probably has amazing stuff, cuz people like Roy Haynes, Donald Byrd, Lee Morgan used to come by and jam with the band, and he'd be rolling tape all the while ... think there's any hope that there are other 78s out there? Jim Alfredson Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 Bill is a staple of the Michigan scene and lots of cats around here have played with him. Someone was just telling me they played with him a few weeks ago... can't remember who, though. He's a nice cat! Quote

makpjazz57 Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 I usually made a trip out to the west coast once or twice a year to visit my close friends, Kay and Andy Simpkins! I can't even begin to tell you how much I miss both of them. Andy passed away in June of 1999. Now, I'm wishing my memory was better 'cause he always had stories from being on the road with the Three Sounds and always talked as if those were very happy years. I do remember that he spoke of being in Washington D.C. ( I think) - young and still "wet behind the ears" and how honored he was to have Sonny Stitt play with them! Oh, and on one of my trips out there - the man who had just left Kay and Andy's guestroom several days previous...Bill Dowdy! Marla Quote
