We were at NFM lst weekend and I couldn't find it, even using the phone GPS. But I know it's there, somewhere! Yes, once. I also had trouble finding it. It is separate from the big outdoor mall, though you could walk to it from the mall in terms of it being a short distance. It has its own parking lot. It is closer to the freeway than the mall. Its a nice place; someone spent a lot of money on it. I haven't tried the food. As far as a music listening room, it was okay but not really optimal; decent sound but lots of distractions (a loud bar) and people walking by all the time. I've been meaning to go back as they have had some offbeat bookings. Maybe this weekend. Quote

Word up! Particularly terrifying is the Sunday night jam: TRIBUTE TO JAZZ MEMBERS OF THE DALLAS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA Featuring B.SLADE JOHN MCLAUGHLIN Guest Conductor The notion of a jazz festival presenting a tribute to jazz...there ya' go. I don't know Cameo. I caught the end of a Dianne Reeves set at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival three or four years ago and regretted not hearing the whole thing. This Riverfront festival is very weird, like smooth jazz fans are in control but they toss a tiny bone every now and again to actual jazz. I had some interest in Gerald Veasley, but it looks like he is not leading his own band, but rather is in the Masters of Smooth, which does not sound promising. They also have Shelley Carrol in an organ trio. 4th annual WINE & JAZZ FETE Thursday, June 2, 2022 - Saturday, June 4, 2022 LowDown (formerly Duet) , Tulsa , OK The iconic CHARLES LLOYD TRIO headlines the 4th annual Wine & Jazz FETE—three consecutive nights of top-shelf offerings at LowDown, Tulsa’s premier listening room. Dub Modal Posted May 18, 2022 Report Posted May 18, 2022 Cameo is great. Super weird, sparse funk stylings esp post Rigormortis. Totally unique sound and they owned it at their peak. That Sunday night jam though….oof. Quote
JSngry Posted May 18, 2022 Report Posted May 18, 2022 Cameo used to be MONSTER big. I liked them a lot, no idea what their current show is, probably all the hits, but who knows. Back in the day, Cameo was at the top of whatever they were on top of. It's just a VERY strange follow-up to Dianne Reeves. Even if Miles made a record with them. Quote

JSngry Posted May 23, 2022 Report Posted May 23, 2022 I also recognize Dan Barrett, Rebecca Kilgore, Johnny Varro, and Brian Piper. Sounds like a very "mainstream" oriented thing. I like this: Will there be an opportunity to meet the Jazz musicians? You bet! In fact, they will be happy to autograph your program and, if you’re lucky, you might even have several of them sit at your table between sets! The atmosphere is open and friendly...conversations and photos between sets are highly encouraged. IF you're lucky...you can talk to the animals. AND take pictures of them! Quote

His music is imbued with warmth and sensitivity and can be counted on to take listeners on a breathless journey into the unexpected. His special touch technique allows him to play simultaneously on two different guitars, or even on guitar and piano. But this technique is always a means to a musical end. His versions of “The Lady in My Life” and “Eleanor Rigby” sent Magic Touch to the top of Billboard’s jazz chart for 51 weeks and made the album a gold-seller. Leonard Feather wrote, “Genius is a word often tossed around in musical circles, but it has been rightfully applied to Stanley Jordan.” Quote

kh1958 Posted August 5, 2022 Author Report Posted August 5, 2022 There are two Indian Classical series in the DFW area, but unfortunately neither has re-started since COVID. This organization has concerts at the Public Library in Allen and is the better of the two (for my tastes). Their last concert by a traveling artist was on November 2, 2019. http://www.icmcdfw.org/default.aspx This organization has concerts at a church on Forest Lane in Dallas, but is mostly vocal Indian classical music, with the occasional instrumental concert (Kadri Gopalnath was the best I've seen here.) .http://www.ifaadfw.org Quote
