jazzbo Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 For all those curious about the contents of the Jazz in Paris box sets: Okay it's not available by directly linking to pages, it doesn't work that way. But here's the main link: http://www.universal-music.de/html/ Go to the link. Punch in "Montmartre," "Saint Germain", "Rive Gauche" "Champs" . . . each of these will lead to a page where you can select the link to the box set. When you get to that page, select the link that says "Detailansicht" and you'll get the complete personnel information! Quote
couw Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 thanks for posting. Somehow, I never got that far in on that site. direct links: Montmartre Saint Germain des Prés Rive Gauche, Rive Droîte Champs-Elysées (hope these work, they do for me...) Quote
jazzbo Posted June 11, 2005 Author Report Posted June 11, 2005 Cool, those work for me. . . thanks! Quote
brownie Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 France produced the music and the boxes. It took the Germans to provide the essential information! There seems to be hope for Europe, still Quote
JPF Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 And not only do you get the complete personnel, you can hear a 1:30 clip of every track! Quote

Quincy Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 I've found a couple of boo-boos so use at your own risk. For the 2nd disc of the Champs-Elysees set there's what appears to be a transcription error. The online site has Andre Ekyan playing on "Swing 42" when he doesn't. He does play on the next song "Vega Blues." On "Vega Blues" they forget to include the drummer Arthur Motta. Might be the only errors for all I know, but there you have it. Quote
Ted O'Reilly Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 Sorry, but I'm a couple of steps behind you all on this.... Are these "Jazz in Paris box sets" repackagings of what was out singly 5 or so years ago (at budget prices)? I got a few individually, then got a slip-covered set ('Jazz In Paris' on Gitanes) of CDs 1-76 (skipping #8). I kind of lost track after that, and how far they got along (77-???) escaped me. The booklets with each disc have pretty good info which seems to be duplicated on that German site. (No doubt there are some goofs: there always are). (At the time, I was told #8 was a Chet Baker disc that should not have been in the series, so they pulled it, leaving all the others with their original series number alongside the individual catalogue number). Quote
jazzbo Posted June 21, 2005 Author Report Posted June 21, 2005 (edited) There were about 102 total of the single discs, but no these box sets are not just groupings of the single discs. They are each three cd collections of material that MOSTLY are within the individual discs, but there are selections on each box set that do not appear on individual discs in the series. And each box set includes a large and thick beautiful booklet with album covers, hand bills, photographs, etc. The booklets are gorgeous! Edited June 21, 2005 by jazzbo Quote

A Django Reinhardt (102) was put out after that, plus a Sacha Distel double CD outside of the numbering scheme. The Chet Baker is still readily available (at least was a while ago) all over the place. Quote

That Chet Baker vol. 8 (Broken Wing from 1976) is a rare item nowadays. Have not seen it in ages and I see those Jazz In Paris CDs all over the record shops. Are you sure the Chet JinP volume you see is not vol. 53 'Chet Baker Plays Standards', the 1956 session? It was left out - the only one - from the massive Jazz in Paris box that had the 75 first volumes from the collection. It was also left out from the collection catalogue. I was told by one place that they have seen several around these past 12 weeks. I got mine over a year ago, as far as I recall, but I have helped a board member find a cheap one (9.99 Euro) about 8 weeks ago, or so. Quote

brownie Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 Looks like the overstock found its way to Germany when the disc was pulled out from the series Quote

Jim Dye Posted October 17, 2005 Report Posted October 17, 2005 I just picked all 4 of these up at Tower in Long Beach. They were only 20.99 each! Wow! Absolutely stunning packaging. They list for 27.99 but are part of the current 25% off Verve sale. I can't believe they are so inexpensive. I am thrilled to say the least. Quote
jazzbo Posted October 17, 2005 Author Report Posted October 17, 2005 Good score Jim! I didn't pay much more for them when I preordered them from cduniverse. A steal for what you get! Quote
