Durium Posted June 26, 2005 Report Posted June 26, 2005 Who can tell me more about Jackie Davis? He made recordings like " Jumpin' Jackie on Capitol and Easy does it on HJW IAJRC convention Copenhagen ( El redescubrimiento de Oscar Aleman) Quote
mikeweil Posted June 26, 2005 Report Posted June 26, 2005 That probably was a license of a Capitol LP - I have one of these. The liner doesn't say anything about his biography. He must have been quite a popular artist at the fringe of jazz in the 1960's, although I have no doubts he could play when he wanted too. Quote
Durium Posted June 26, 2005 Author Report Posted June 26, 2005 Jackie Davis ← Thank you for your info !! Quote
mikeweil Posted June 26, 2005 Report Posted June 26, 2005 In 1978, while he was producing Ella Fitzgerald records at the rate of about two a month, Norman Granz hired Davis to accompany her, along with Louis Bellson on drums, on her album, Lady Time. Is this available? Anybody heard this? Quote

Is this available? Anybody heard this? ← AMG shows it as an OJC: LADY TIME Review by Scott Yanow This CD places Ella Fitzgerald (then 60) in an unusual setting. Joined only by organist Jackie Davis and drummer Louie Bellson, she tackles a wide variety of material that ranges from "I'm Walkin'" and "I Cried for You" to "Mack the Knife" (which did not need to be remade) and "And the Angels Sing." Not one of her more essential releases, Lady Time does show that even at this fairly late stage in her career, Ella Fitzgerald could outswing just about anyone. AMG has sound clips too. Quote
