Soul Stream Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Ordered this from Dustygroove. It looks to be a new Water release which is enough for me to buy these days. Eddie on electric piano....I'm all about that. Quote
Noj Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 I have the Label M reissue, thumbs up here! I like it better than Layers and Les' later R&B albums. To my ears, Invitation To Openness seems similar to albums such as Coryell's Barefoot Boy or even Miles' In A Silent Way. Quote
Guest akanalog Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 it's ok but i like layers better. i also don't see such a resemblance to barefoot boy, which i also like. barefoot boy seems more focused and driven and tight to me. you will like it but it is a little formless. every now and then it all comes together-it does have an in a silent way-ish vibe. mikeweil Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 In a certain way, Les' take on the In a silent way etc. experiments. I loved it back then - a local DJ featured it as a model for large group improvisation, and I got me the album after that. Haven't listened to it in a long time, but it left a lasting impression. I'll have to play them in rapid succession with what you say in mind, akanalog. Quote
Soul Stream Posted July 28, 2005 Author Report Posted July 28, 2005 Whatever it turns out to be musically for me,...Water continues to surprise and inform. Quote
Guest akanalog Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 you might want to check out herbie mann's "stone flute". in the same way "invitation..." is sort of a take on in a silent way by someone you don't associate with that kind of music, i kind of feel "stone flute", though less electric and rocking, is sort of mann's take on this kind of music and it is pretty decent. RDK Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Hmmmmmm...... Not sure if Chuck means "Ahhhhhh....." as in good or "Argh........" as in bad. Quote
JSngry Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 He's just chanelling the opening of "Cissy Strut". Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 Must be the reason they called the label Water. Quote
Soul Stream Posted July 29, 2005 Author Report Posted July 29, 2005 It's all about tension and release. Quote

Ed S Posted July 30, 2005 Report Posted July 30, 2005 (edited) As evidenced above, this album is not for everyone. I have it, and love it - played nice and loud. Edited July 30, 2005 by Ed Swinnich Quote
