I have the Label M reissue, thumbs up here! I like it better than Layers and Les' later R&B albums. To my ears, Invitation To Openness seems similar to albums such as Coryell's Barefoot Boy or even Miles' In A Silent Way.

it's ok but i like layers better.

i also don't see such a resemblance to barefoot boy, which i also like. barefoot boy seems more focused and driven and tight to me.

you will like it but it is a little formless. every now and then it all comes together-it does have an in a silent way-ish vibe.

In a certain way, Les' take on the In a silent way etc. experiments. I loved it back then - a local DJ featured it as a model for large group improvisation, and I got me the album after that. Haven't listened to it in a long time, but it left a lasting impression.

At least I was half right! I'll have to play them in rapid succession with what you say in mind, akanalog.

you might want to check out herbie mann's "stone flute".

in the same way "invitation..." is sort of a take on in a silent way by someone you don't associate with that kind of music, i kind of feel "stone flute", though less electric and rocking, is sort of mann's take on this kind of music and it is pretty decent.

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Hmmmmmm......

Not sure if Chuck means "Ahhhhhh....." as in good or "Argh........" as in bad.

I'm going with ""Argh........" as in bad."

He's just chanelling the opening of "Cissy Strut".

Now, there's a good record!

As evidenced above, this album is not for everyone.

I have it, and love it - played nice and loud.
