Ron S Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 I dunno--I think it would look a lot better with a guitar (and a real shirt and tie). Quote
clifford_thornton Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 OK, I'm not getting the reference. Uh oh. Quote

montg Posted July 30, 2005 Report Posted July 30, 2005 Wolf is on the new Jeremy Pelt CD and I think he sounds very good. The suits who are marketing the CD are apparently lacking in creativity (or maybe they're just plain cynical), but I'm interested to hear the music on this. Looks like a good band. Is anyone familiar with the M&I Jazz label from Japan? A cursory search comes up empty for me. Quote
Kalo Posted July 30, 2005 Report Posted July 30, 2005 (edited) I haven't heard Wolf (at least to my knowledge), but that t-shirt kind of ruins the cover for me. You'd think that "the Suits" would at least have better taste in clothing, unless they were specifically aiming for the slovenly/slacker crowd (and I don't see any tatoos). Or maybe someone just told him, "go Wes, young man." Edited July 30, 2005 by Kalo Quote

Ron S Posted July 30, 2005 Report Posted July 30, 2005 Of course, there was the more relaxed 1950's open-shirt look: Quote
Ron S Posted July 30, 2005 Report Posted July 30, 2005 And the even more relaxed no-shirt look: Quote

If it is, I've heard nice things about him from none other than Joe Locke, who by the way, made a Japan release only cd for M&I a couple of years ago, playing producer selected standards. Quote
Free For All Posted July 30, 2005 Report Posted July 30, 2005 Here's a little info I found- Warren Wolf began his musical career at the age of three, learning to play a variety of mallet instruments, as well as a drumset and a piano, by emulating his father, who was himself a jazz musician. By the age of five, Wolf was showcasing his talents in musical venues throughout the Baltimore and Washington DC area. Wolf has performed as a guest soloist with the Baltimore Symphony, including a three-week East Coast tour with flautist James Galway with performances at Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center. From 1994 to 1997, Warren was the principal percussionist with the Peabody Sinfonia (Peabody Preparatory of the Johns Hopkins University), with whom he toured England and Europe twice. After graduating from the Baltimore School for the Arts in 1997, Warren was the recipient of Berklee's B.E.S.T. scholarship for entering students. Though most widely recognized for his virtuosic vibraphone playing, Wolf is also an accomplished pianist as well as a composer. He has performed with world-renowned artists, including Lionel Hampton, Milt Jackson, and Berklee alumni Cyrus Chestnut and Antonio Hart. Quote
montg Posted August 11, 2005 Report Posted August 11, 2005 I think Wolf is from Boston. I've been on a real vibe kick lately--can't seem to hear enough. Here's Wolf performing with Stefon Harris at Lincoln Center: warren wolf Has anyone heard the CD which is the topic of this thread? Quote
