Hardbopjazz Posted September 20, 2005 Report Posted September 20, 2005 (edited) Sad news. 96 is a long life. He did such a great job for justice and making the world never forget what took place. Edited September 20, 2005 by Hardbopjazz Quote
brownie Posted September 20, 2005 Report Posted September 20, 2005 A legend disappears... His perseverance and obstination helped bring some of the worst WWII criminals to face Justice! Quote
mikeweil Posted September 20, 2005 Report Posted September 20, 2005 Only four weeks ago there was an article in DER SPIEGEL about the last Nazi criminal he was hunting, Aribert Heim, the "Mengele" of Mauthausen - Wiesenthal almost fell victim to his experiments - who is still alive, obviously, at 91 - what an injustice! RIP Mr. Wiesenthal! Quote
Dave James Posted September 20, 2005 Report Posted September 20, 2005 There are few men or women in history who have devoted their lives to such a singular purpose. A life well lived and a calling fully realized. Up over and out. Quote

A life well lived and a calling fully realized. Up over and out. ← At the very least even if a few of these scum bags escaped justice then they spent the last years waiting for the knock at the door from the police, never knowing when justice would catch em Sad news . I remember reading about him as a kid and marvelling then at his determination. Rest now in peace Quote
porcy62 Posted September 20, 2005 Author Report Posted September 20, 2005 Simon Wiesenthal reminds me some of the victims of mafia, judges, officers, policemen. One of them, Paolo Borsellino, said: 'I am not a hero, I am a common man, it's mafia that is uncommon.' We could apply the same sentence to SW 'holocaust was uncommon'. I think that our times need more 'common men' like them and less 'heroes'. Quote
Guest Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 (edited) Sad news indeed. Both my parents are holocaust survivers and I was exposed to the realities of what they went through from infancy. My father gave testimony on several Nazi trials and I went with him - an emptonally shattering experience. Justice was never done! And what is maddening that justice was not done not becouse lack of evidence or other legal reasons, but often for political reasons The worlds needs more people like Simon.
