7/4 Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 What happened to Van Halen? You might want to check Google alt.music.van-halen to see the never ending USNET debate about VH. EVH beat cancer twice and split up with his wife. DLR has a new album of mostly covers out, it's so-so. DLR replacement and former Montrose lead singer Hagar whines about DLR The last VH album sucks and sold the worst of all the VH albums ...and so on. I miss DLR years. Hell...I miss the King Crimson and Peter Gabriel of the early '80s. Quote
7/4 Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 Yeah you could say all that... or you could just say that they fired David Lee Roth I thought he quit! :eye: Quote
sidewinder Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 Gary Numan's just back in the UK charts too ....... after a gap of about 20 years since his last chart single Quote
Guest Mnytime Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 I believe he means how they fired DLR than spent 11+ years with Sammy Hager than fired him and got back together with DLR for a NY minute and "fired" him again or conned him and their fans. Depending on which side you ask about what happened. Currently they are in limbo as DLR and Sammy have toured together and separately and Michael Anthony has even toured with Sammy. No one has heard from the VH brothers in a couple years. Their label even dropped VH. The interesting thing to point out is that next year they are eligible for the Rock and Roll and Hall of Fame. Yeah you could say all that... or you could just say that they fired David Lee Roth, hired Sammy Hagar and they've sucked ever since. Isn't that easier? Yea, you could but when you are a DR. it's all in the details. It's hard to get out of the habit. Quote
Guest Mnytime Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 (edited) Yeah you could say all that... or you could just say that they fired David Lee Roth I thought he quit! :eye: Well just like with the second time it depends who you ask. DLR will tell you he was fired while the VH brothers will tell you he quit to make a movie. Actually after how they treated Hager I tend to not believe the VH brothers. Son-of-a-Weizen Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 Read as much as I have and you pick up all kinds of info. Trivial Pursuit is not a game you want to play against me. You're that good huh? Okay then......when the Russians shot all of those Polish officers out in the Katyn Forest in '40 and bound their hands behind their backs, what did they stuff in many of the victims mouths (gag) before dispatching them with a round? Son-of-a-Weizen Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 Okay....and the rope, pre-cut in even lengths, was manufactured in which country? Quote

Okay then......when the Russians shot all of those Polish officers out in the Katyn Forest in '40 and bound their hands behind their backs, what did they stuff in many of the victims mouths (gag) before dispatching them with a round? I could have answered these questions if I'm allowed to consult my book, "Katyn," by Allen Paul. Haven't yet read the book though I know of the atrocity. Impressive stuff, Mny. Question: Which poem does this line come from: "The infirm glory of the positive hour." Quote

Thomas Stearns Eliot (otherwise known as T.S. Eliot) from Ash Wednesday I believe. Correctamundo! That line has been wringing in my head all day, so I thought I'd place it in a trivia question. (As If I've experienced any "positive hours" lately! ) This one might be easier, but I'm not sure. What happened at Matawan Creek in 1916? (No cheating by searching the internet!) Quote
Guest Mnytime Posted July 10, 2003 Report Posted July 10, 2003 Shark Attacks that killed 4-6 people? Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted July 10, 2003 Report Posted July 10, 2003 Excellent. Now the harder question: which type of shark? Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted July 10, 2003 Report Posted July 10, 2003 (edited) Not very likely at all. (Told you this one was tough) Any shark expert will tell you that it was most likely a Bull shark which made its way into Matawan Creek. White sharks cannot stand freshwater. Bull sharks frequent fresh water as evidenced by Bull shark varietes, Ganges Shark, Zambesi Shark, and Lake Nicaragua shark. The other telltale sign is that bull sharks will often bite several people whereas white sharks take an exploratory bite and for the most part stick to the same victim if it attacks again. In Matawan, Stanley Fisher (I think that was the name) was attacked when trying to rescue the kid. Fischer died of blood loss on the way to the hospital. There were two shark attacks along the NJ shoreline 1-2 weeks before the Matawan attacks and this engendered the "rogue shark theory." Actually, different sharks were involved. A big shark hunt followed the attacks and a white shark was caught with some undigested human remains. These remains were likely to be those of a man who was attacked off the Jersey shore 10 days prior. They never did catch that bull shark. Very good, though Mny. A few more then I'll quit. What's the old colonial name for Jakarta? (i.e. the name of the city before it was called Jakarta?) Who was the famous English Rajah of Sarawak? Sticking to Asian themes: What was the name of the 10 foot hominid that frequented Vietnam and China at the time of Homo Erectus? And what did it primarily feed on? Why is it that the Vietnamese alphabet uses Latin letters instead of Chinese? What Sioux tribe did Chief Gall come from and lead? What did he die from? These are tough Mny if you don't look them up. If you can get them without looking them up, then....you're THE BEST!!! :rsmile: Edited July 10, 2003 by connoisseur series500 Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted July 10, 2003 Report Posted July 10, 2003 Boy, it sure is taking Mny a long time to look up these answers! Quote
