Alfred Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 (edited) Benny Golson appeared yesterday at Widder Bar in Zürich. I enjoyed it very much. It is always a pleasure to listen to such a legend in a live atmosphere. He played some standards (Whisper not, Are you real, …) and some other tunes of his own hugh repertoire (i.e. Stablemates or I remember Clifford, which is also a standard -_- ). He was accompanied by Antonio Farao, piano – Margo Vaggi, bass – Marcello Nisi, drums. Edited October 5, 2005 by Alfred Quote
bertrand Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 I'm not sure what distinction you are making between standards and tunes from Golson's repertoire - all four of the pieces you list are his compositions, and all four can safely be called standards. Bertrand. Quote
Alfred Posted October 5, 2005 Author Report Posted October 5, 2005 That's what I meant with: -_-. Sorry for being inaccurate. Quote
Ron S Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 I saw him in Philly earlier this year. Sounds like he played pretty much the same tunes, and probably told the same stories! He was terrific, and I hope he comes back again soon. Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 I hope he hits NYC. I need to catch the giant. Quote
mikeweil Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 Caught him earlier this year with a local big band - his sound and soloing were gorgeous! Got Ron Carter's CD "Stardust" today - some excellent Golson on it! Quote
