catesta Posted November 20, 2005 Report Posted November 20, 2005 (edited) Mill Basin Kosher Deli Avenue T and East 59th St. in Brooklyn. Pastrami! I had a PLT (burnt pastrami, lettuce and tomato on rye) for lunch. I'd forgotten how much of a good thing it can be. No doubt this place is one of my favorite Kosher delis. Tell us your favorite spot for a good sammich or other deli treats! Edited November 20, 2005 by catesta Quote

BFrank Posted November 20, 2005 Report Posted November 20, 2005 I know it's ULTRA-tourist-y, but I still like Carnegie Deli. Second Avenue Deli is excellent, too. Quote

They have remained in business and occasionally I take my kids there for lunch. I'm asking them for burnt pastrami next time Quote

Brad Posted November 20, 2005 Report Posted November 20, 2005 Being out in the burbs, we're not going to get much, certainly not like in the City -- and that's New York city -- there is no other city. However, in Madison, there was a place called Fat Boys that made pretty good subs. Quote

Second Avenue Deli is excellent, too. ← 2nd Avenue is indeed excellent. Places like the Carnegie and Stage are great and still serve top quality. Both though seem to be geared more for the tourist now. How about this place? Katz's Delicatessen Quote
catesta Posted November 20, 2005 Author Report Posted November 20, 2005 shit, if i knew you were going out to Mill Basin... i've been there; wasn't so hot but maybe it was a bad day. there's a wacky excellent pizza joint of note there, La Villa, don't have addie at hand but i bet ya'll can find it... next time you're out that way, THEE godlike place to hit is Rocky's Meat Market, Ave R 'tween Bay Parkway & Nostrand. it's an old-timer italian butcher but they make sammiches & their roast beef is practically bloody & the best you'll ever have of its kind. excellent bread too-- get w/ american cheese & a litltle pepper, that's it. best WARM roast beef, if you go that way, is this joint Papa Pasquale's on 14th Ave in Dyker... some people swear by Clemente's (no relation) still but I think Papa is better. xxc ← Mill Basin has done alright by me. I should have let you know we were coming to the hood. I spent the whole day between Gravesend and Bensonhurst. Had some coffee on Avenue U across from Dairy Made Ravioli and did some shopping on 18th Avenue and 86th Street. Ended up having dinner at Nick's Lobster on Flatbush by Kings Plaza. Quote
catesta Posted November 20, 2005 Author Report Posted November 20, 2005 Nick's is good-- did you notice, or did they still have, the picture of Tyson up? next time yr out THAT way, however, make sure you head up Flatbush in other direction & go to Rencher's Crab Inn-- it's black Maryland-style joint & the shrimp totally kill, excellent crab too... believe it or not, the single best dim-sum joint in NYC is now on 18th Ave, World Tong, you can look it up... best glazed donuts (plain too) are on Ave U in from Coney Island Ave, you coulda cut right across there, another odd old-timer that miraculously survives (tho' it's so good the loyalty there & not to crap chains makes total sense)... Mill Basin is cool, weird-- there's mad Rusian mob $$$ on some of those cul de sacs too. xxc ← I didn't notice a Tyson picture, I'll look for it next time. I'll also have to give Rencher's a try. BERIGAN Posted November 20, 2005 Report Posted November 20, 2005 There may be a good deli in Atlanta, but I have yet to find it. Jacksonville was worse. Every time I go to L.A., I HAVE to go to Jerry's famous Deli. The Roast beef... Damn, my mouth is dying for one now!!! Quote
