catesta Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 Very nice. We are fortunate to have Chuck here among us, no? I say yes. Quote
ejp626 Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 Well, I'm still not crazy about the Bad Plus, but I think it is very cool that they have a pretty deep understanding of where jazz came from and where it went it the 1960s and 1970s. The fact that they would tip their fans off to Nessa Records is also cool, though it means anyone on the fence for the AEC box had better move. Quote
.:.impossible Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 "In addition, Mitchell and Bowie were among the first post-modern improvisers. (Jaki Byard was ahead of them by five years.) " What are they referring to here? Glad to see the complete Nessa catalog listed online. Quote
JSngry Posted January 28, 2006 Author Report Posted January 28, 2006 "In addition, Mitchell and Bowie were among the first post-modern improvisers. (Jaki Byard was ahead of them by five years.) " What are they referring to here? I'm guessing that they're referring to the conscious inclusion of the entire continuum as equivalid grounds for inclusion and exploration instead of just playing in one basic "style". Quote
Uncle Skid Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 We are fortunate to have Chuck here among us, no? I say yes. Definitely! In addition to the nice writeup, It is also extremely cool that there are a few MP3 samples from the AEC box set posted there as well. (I'm glad I already have my copy, as I wouldn't be surprised if the remaining sets go quick!) Quote
Lazaro Vega Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 That's cool. How exciting for the Bad Plus to be "discovering" this incredible music for themselves. The Bad Plus is coming into West Michigan for the Gilmore Keyboard Festival, should anyone care to hear them live in these parts. Clementi, is that Lewis a new release? Quote
jon abbey Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 Professor Lewis is at Columbia now but seems to have been keeping a pretty low public profile-- no gigs at Tonic or The Stone, for instance-- since he's been there, unless I missed something while out of town. he's done a few, he did one with Marina Rosenfeld, I think they did sets at both the Stone and the Kitchen. he had his first kid earlier this year, so between that and his job and finishing his book, he doesn't have much free time. .:.impossible Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 Please post when this disc has been released. Thanks. Quote
Lazaro Vega Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 The Phillip Wilson duet record with Lester Bowie (Improvising Artists) may be on that list of Wilson's best records, too. Quote
