Rooster_Ties Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 (edited) This looks very interesting, and I'm afraid I'll forget about it later. Amusing Ourselves to Death: Public Discourse in the Age of Show Business by Neil Postman 20th Annv edition (2006) - originally published in 1986. And HERE's the introduction to the 20th Anniversary Edition, by Postman's son - Andrew Postman... -- Rooster Edit: I figure we can consider this a place to publicly "bookmark" links to the books we're considering. (BB) Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 I the old paperback version. It is yours for the asking. I haven't picked it up in 10years+. This was written pre-web and when network TV was KING. If I remember it has some theory that may still be interesting. Always glad to give a book a good home. Obviously I'm new here and figure you can figure out how to reach me. Bill Quote

Joe G Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 Easy to see where Tom's head is these days. :rsmile: Funny, though the title of the first book you posted in this thread came to me just yesterday, for some unknown reason (haven't read it either). Quote
ep1str0phy Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 (edited) Saw a woman reading this in a restaurant last week and have been intrigued ever since: Misquoting Jesus Another loaded gun (or are they a-dime-a-dozen, nowadays)? It's been getting features in quite a few places (I think the author was on the Daily Show a week or so ago). I've actually been up for this one, if only to know what new spins (if any) someone can divine from this sort of scholarship (and this is Discovery Channel stuff, right?).
