jazzbo Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 Welcome! He changed my life too I would say. He helped introduce me to a wonderful world of music. Quote
sidewinder Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 Certainly opened my ears right up. Miles was one of the first jazz musicians I heard on LP and his music never ceases to amaze/delight. Quote
Claude Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 Miles was the artist that introduced me to the jazz history. Before I bought the "Columbia Years 1955-1985" 4CD set in 1990, I only listened to contemporary jazz (mainly ECM and european aertists), and I thought the history consisted in Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington (which I found boring at the time). After being overwelmed by the music in the Miles sampler, I explored the full albums and the music of his sidemen (Coltrane, Hancock, Bill Evans) and read some jazz guides. Quote
PHILLYQ Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 I started with McLaughlin & Mahavishnu, then I discovered an album(Live-Evil) that had Mclaughlin & Miles. This led me to Chick Corea, Wayne Shorter, etc and a branching out to people who played with people who played with Miles. Through Miles I've heard so many other great musicians. Here it is, 30+ years later and I still love it. Thank you Miles Quote

kh1958 Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 The LP Basic Miles was the second or third jazz recordings I purchased. Quote
John L Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 My father wasn't a big jazz fan when I was growing up. But he did have Kind of Blue. Thank God for that! Quote
Guest akanalog Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 is this thread now a big joke? are people messing? wasn't the original post SPAM? did people not notice the link at the bottom? no disrespect to the members of our armed forces, but if it is indeed SPAM that is pretty lame to use the armed forces as part of the ruse and if it is not SPAM, jimi, your programming skills look like they are WAY better than your spelling/syntax! nice job with the website. Guest akanalog Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 i would rather be a libra than a virgo, which i am. a virginal woman doesn't inspire the fear or exude the dignity of a lion or a scale, for instance. Quote
