Five Birds and a Monk

I hope this is the right place for questians, I have an album called Five Birds And A Monk, this is on vinyl and I was wondering as to the availability on cd. Its on Galaxy records and was recorded in Dec 1978. Basically its a rhythm section of Stanley Cowell, Roy Haynes and either John Heard or Cecil McBee on bass. Then one track each for the following sax players, Art Pepper, John Klemmer, Harold Land, Johnny Griffin, Joe Farrell and Joe Henderson. Any info please.

Welcome! This is exactly the right subforum to ask this question.

According to this Fantasy discography (use the "Search on page" function of your browser to look for "birds"), the material from the LP "Five Birds and a Monk" wasn't reissued on CD, but alternate takes from the same sessions were released on the CD "Ballads by Five"

Actually, the album has been reissued, with alternate takes, as Birds & Monks: http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?...315581102&BAB=E

Those were two good albums. I've got both LPs, and although a few cuts are "disposable", overall it's some very strong playing, especially by Griffin, Henderson, & Land. Guess I'd better upgrade to the CDs w/the extra material while they're still available.
