just wondering if anyone knows of James Chance's whereabouts and contact info -

Last I heard, he married the photographer who shot the photos for the Off White album, they moved to France, and she died recently. He may still be in France.

I saw that guy in Austin years ago--one of the worst concerts I've ever seen, and a truly awful saxophonist.

This was around 1982--I recall reading all this praise in the local entertainment paper and being extremely disappointed (live jazz not being very available in Austin at that time).

well, it's a different kind of thing - more of a mix of punk rock with elements of free jazz - I only know the cuts from No New York - just a different and very interesting sound -

He played in the 7th Street Entry at First Avenue on Christmas Day a couple of years back. I didn't go to the gig, but my friend went who is a fan of Chance and said that it was pretty bad.

Simon Reynolds has a new book out called "Rip it Up and Start Again: Postpunk 1978-1984" which has a chapter on Chance and the No Wave scene. Looks like an interesting book.
