skeith Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 (edited) It was yesterday and they showed him at his estate outside London. I love the guy. He sits down at the B3 organ and plays the opening notes from some Jimmy Smith riff...wish I could remember which one. Edited March 13, 2006 by skeith Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 Winwood's a bad dude. That last record he put out with just a quartet (organ, guitar, drums, and percussion) is a fantastic CD. And he can sing his ass off. Wish I could've seen the segment. Quote
jazzbo Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 It was cool to see, and yeah, that album is great. Funnily I had just finished listening to "Shootout at the Fantasy Factory" before the "Sunday" show came on. Quote
Stereojack Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 It was yesterday and they showed him at his estate outside London. I saw the piece - very interesting. Did they say his estate is outside London? I've heard that he lives in Kentucky (married a Kentucky girl). Quote
kinuta Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 I remember first seeing him with the Spencer Davis group at the Twisted Wheel club in Manchester around 1964. He was only a kid but everyone could tell he just had a special magic, he played piano and sang like a veteran soul man even back then. After that I never missed a chance to see him live. Quote
Guest Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 i see you mentioned jimmy, but just so you know Winwood knows about allll those blue note/prestige, etc B3 players. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 BFrank, thanks for posting that! It's great news that he's working on a new record. Quote
chris olivarez Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 I remember the first time I heard "Give Me Some Loving" on the radio. Oh man that just flat blew me away!!! I was in Fort Collins last weekend and I picked up the 2cd edition of the most recent cd. In case you weren't aware the second side is a dual disc. I can't wait to hear and see it!!! Quote
GregN Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 Yeah, BFrank, thanks I really enjoyed reading something positive about the music biz, and about Steve Winwood. Quote
