Didn't some of the other CD reissues in this Carnegie Hall series on Prestige have tracks deleted in order to fit them onto one disc? kh1958 Posted March 22, 2006 Report Share Posted March 22, 2006 I can't tell much difference--but either the LP or the CD are good enough to be considered listenable, and this is a great concert. My favorite part was always the sequence on side 2 of the LP, where Ellington says, "And now our Portraits," leading into Portrait of Bert Williams, Portrait of Bojangles, Portrait of Florence Mills, then onto a great version of Koko, and then on to two Strayhorn pieces, "Dirge," which is the bleakest piece of music I've ever heard, and another great Johnny Come Lately. Of course, side 5 of the old LP set, with Bakiff, Jack the Bear, Cotton Tail and Day Dream, I like almost as much. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
