The version of "Dream" on "Between Nothingness and Eternity," and specifically the duet section of McLaughlin and Cobham, is one of the most incendiary things I've ever heard. I was fortunate to be at that concert, and was just listening to a cassette recording I made from the audience, and it's still, after all these years and listenings, just jaw-dropping.

Between Nothingness and Eternity is my very favorite Mahavishnu Orchestra material. I may find myself getting this eventually just for the remaster and the bonus disc. I wish they'd just release that separately. . . .

The live album was recorded over two nights at Central Park in 1973 and I was at one of those nights. I was 17 and it was a mind-altering experience, even though I had seen them the year before there. Mahavishnu led me to Miles, then to everybody else.

I wish I had been there. I never saw the band, though I'd seen Jerry Goodman with The Flock at the tail end of the Fillmore East.

Hey Philly, we're the same age and both Brooklynites. I knew I liked you for some reason or other.

And you went to high school at Midwood? That's about 7-8 blocks from my boyhood home! I preordered the box only because it has the extra disc with more Central Park stuff. If it has the Mar Y Sol cut that's even better.

Philly Q - is the box only available from PopEater? Is this newly remastered?

As far as I know it's only available from popmarket. According to something I saw(maybe on Hoffman), the live disc is remastered IIRC.

Yes, on the Hoffman board it was noted that from a Mahavishnu Project webpage the news is that Between Nothingness and Eternity and the new live disc (at least) are remixed and remastered.

Thanks PhillyQ - I meant Popmarket. Any get their copy yet?

I got my copy yesterday and I listened to about 20 minutes of the disc with extra material- it's hot stuff and sounds great to my non-audiophile ears.

Was listening today to "Meeting of the Spirits," the leadoff track on The Inner Mounting Flame.  That sure sounds to me like Larry Young playing with them, but there's no mention of him in the credits.  Anyone else hear this?

Are you thinking of the ghostly organ sound on the track?  I never really thought of that!  But I'm pretty sure the answer is no, LY did not play on that track.

Just by coincidence, I listened to McLaughlin's "Devotion" LP (Douglas) a few weeks ago, and Young's organ there sounds very similar to the one on Meeting of the Spirits.
