jazzbo Posted August 23, 2006 Report Posted August 23, 2006 (edited) I like her. . . I"ve the first two albums, and remix albums of the first two. NOT ESSENTIAL stuff by any means, and not like the classic Bossa Nova material, so purists need not apply. Not quite like that Suba material I shared with you, but on the way there. . . . JSngry Posted August 23, 2006 Author Report Posted August 23, 2006 Yeah, that Suba stuff has piqued my interest, and I read somewhere that he had produced her at some point. Know anything about that? Then, some cat on Amazon or someplace said that Berimbaum wasn't anything that Bebel hadn't already done better, and I was like, ok, show me, and all that. I really dig Berimbaum. And hey, thanks for sharing these. Stimulating music indeed! Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted August 23, 2006 Report Posted August 23, 2006 (edited) I love her voice much but that Suba is light years beyond BG in interest as far as a solid platter is concerned. I had picked up those two Bebel's when they came out respectively and the second was quite a yawner esp after hearing her on an Arto Lindsay/Towa Tei thing long ago. Cibelle, who voxes on Suba, was a good start but tiresome in short time. Her new one seems very very laid back from samplings. Recently "got the wife" that new Rosalia DeSouza as she reminded me of a smoother voiced Marisa Monte (who's early stuff is all good). And I sure wish Lillian Vieria from that Zuco 103 group would do something great - she seems like a lot of fun! All that Six Degrees catalogue is at Emusic. jazzbo Posted August 23, 2006 Report Posted August 23, 2006 I do think there's a bit of Suba in the Bebel discs. . . I think he produced a track here and there. I"d have to check. But you were being lied to regarding Berimbaum in my opinon; this stuff is NOT like that stuff. Not up to that level. Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted August 23, 2006 Report Posted August 23, 2006 (edited) not to hijack but can i be there right now!? Edited August 23, 2006 by Man with the Golden Arm Quote
GA Russell Posted August 23, 2006 Report Posted August 23, 2006 I got her first album when it first came out, and really liked it. Played the heck out of it. Don't play it much anymore, however. I subsequently read that she needs a lot of help from the computer to stay on key. Quote
Jim R Posted August 23, 2006 Report Posted August 23, 2006 From what I've read and heard, this is head and shoulders above her other (earlier) discs. It's more in the tradition of her famous parents (generally speaking, of course) though, so if you're into dance mixes, electronica, etc, then it may not float your boat. I'd never actually listened to any of her work until I saw this thread. From the samples I've listened to, she has a very nice voice and feel, but I'm not sure there's anything distinctive enough about her sound to hook me. Quote
Alexander Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 I have both discs, I adore them. She's got a great voice and a very sexy delivery. Two thumbs waaay up. Quote
Jim R Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 I have both discs, I adore them. Both? I thought she had 4 or 5 out already... Quote
Van Basten II Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 Loved her first album, saw her live when that album came out, to be polite let's just say she wasn't ready for prime time, to be nasty she wasn't ready for cable access. Hope for her she improved. Quote
JSngry Posted August 24, 2006 Author Report Posted August 24, 2006 Sounds like somebody I'll get to eventually. Probably. Quote
JSngry Posted August 24, 2006 Author Report Posted August 24, 2006 not to hijack but can i be there right now!? Nice. Who's that? Quote
rostasi Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 She's reinvented herself in this past decade. The 80's and 90's stuff is pretty anemic sounding. Was just playing her (and remixes) earlier today. I like her, but you shouldn't expect her to have a very unique voice - yet. Rod --- Now playing: Jiva - I Realized (Twilight Bossa Mix) Quote
rostasi Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 (edited) Nice. Who's that? That's the lovely and talented Lilian Vieira. Edited August 24, 2006 by rostasi Quote

JSngry Posted August 24, 2006 Author Report Posted August 24, 2006 Thanks. Sounds interesting. Do they reach the potential of their goals? Because for this "pan-Global pan-music pan-groove" thing, I gotta tell ya' that I've yet to hear anybody come close to Monday Michiru. And I keep looking... Quote

And I keep looking...Well, I'll tell you...we're dealing with another thing here alltogether. Let's just say that as part of the Brazilian contingent, they offer a fine buffet, but there's much more to consume at the Michiru Diner. Quote
