montg Posted August 25, 2006 Report Posted August 25, 2006 I haven't heard any of these but I'm curious about them. The formula seems to be to have three youngish players on the same instruement joined by a rhythm section. A lot of top notch players...plus, the number of volumes (20 and counting) suggests that the series has been successful. Opinions? Do any stand out as a good places to start? robviti Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 (edited) i have several volumes and enjoy them all. imo, the arrangements, along with the talent, make them more interesting than many other jam sessions. my favorites are vols. 11, 4, and 9. btw, your list omits the third soloist featured on each session. Kevin Bresnahan Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 The ones I've heard have been great. It's too bad that these CDs seem to list for around $18 each. Too steep for me to take a chance on too many of them. I do have a few on my want list. I probably should start getting more. Later, Kevin Quote
Eloe Omoe Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 #12, with Rich Perry, Larry Schneider and Igor Butman is more than excellent, and highly recommended. luca Quote
Peter Friedman Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 I have # 3 and # 9. They are both enjoyable though not outstanding. There are many many non-Jam Session Steeplechase CDs that I consider clearly superior to these two. Quote
