Has anyone heard this album? It's a collaboration between Shipp, Medeski and Scotty Hard. William Parker and Nasheet Waits complete the rhythm section. Sounds very intriguing!

That looks very interesting! According to AMG it's not out until next week. Will definitely check that out. I wouldn't have thought to pair Shipp & Medeski.

there is a cut on a TE sampler @ emusic. only listened to some snips, scotty hard's myspace page has three songs on it. a bit noodley as you might expect. sure would be swell if they got an imaginative and non redundant groove on.

Shipp is an absolutely amazing musician - suffice to say he can do anything - give him a tune that's open and free or a set of chord changes and he makes something out of it. I don't think there's any musical context in which he would not be able to fit in -

I went to the orthopedic surgeon today, and when I saw this thread title

I have damage to three ligaments and two will heal on their own in another month, and when they heal it's surgery time. Sorry to hijack this thread, I hadda vent a bit. Please resume the discussion.

For what its worth, John Medeski and Billy Martin have released a duo record called Mago. Medeski on B-3 and Martin on drum kit. Some tracks feature heavy production technique, whereas others are straight up organ and drum duet.

Getting around to hearing it as we speak, and it's ok. "Spacey" and such, and seemingly willfully "detached", but that's part of the deal going in, so hey.

"Lasting value" is probably going to be widely variable, but right now I'm thinkng it's something to put on for some good ambient sound and some passive listening.

To win my heart, I need a little less "laboratory", or else so much that the intent becomes the content, but this ain't bad.

And just as I write that, a really dark & snakey groove starts up.

Yeah, this'll be good for at least a few plays.
