Any one else had any unauthorised sales on their ebay?

Looked at my ebay yesterday to find I was selling a coffee machine! A 24 hour listing with the instruction don't bid on the item or pay through ebay but contact an email address. Clearly a scam of sorst and I'd guess that no goods will be delivered. I want like being involved with things like this.

Looks like your account has been hijacked. Contact eBay ASAP!

What Hans said!!!

I hope you don't have a paypal account associated with the ebay account.

Reminds me that I'm sure glad I've never given Paypal my bank account information.

Of course over those first three years (from about 2000 to late 2002 or early 2003, I spent down my $1,000 spending limit with them-- although lucklily when I got down below $50 or $100, they bumped it back up to $1,000 again (after telling me 100 times I'd better give them my bank account numbers, before my spending limit got all used up). Empty threat, I thought (I refused to give them my bank account numbers), and I was right, they bumped me back up with another $1,000 limit.

Now, three years (more) later (late 2006), I've spent down that $1,000 too (I guess I spend about $300 per year on stuff I have to use Paypal for). My spending limit is down to something like $32. And I still refuse to give them my bank account numbers. But this time, they haven't bumped my limit back up (at least not yet). Wonder if they will if I spend that last $32 down to $10 or $5 (or $2)?? We'll see.

I guess my only choice is to start a new Paypal account, with a new e-mail address. Cuz they sure ain't gettin' my bank account numbers, THAT'S for sure.

How can someone who get's hold of the Ebay login data access the Paypal login data or use the Paypal account? Aren't these seperate?

They're nominally separate but if someone uses the same password for paypal as ebay, and a person has already hacked the ebay account, there's nothing stopping them from accessing the paypal account. Everyone knows they're supposed to have different passwords and change them regularly, but I doubt that too many people follow that advice. Most have a handful of passwords they use, and if one doesn't work they try the other til they get in.

PayPal has my bank info, for an account I closed several years ago! I wonder if one could set up a bank account then close it after establishing the PayPal account? For all they know, it still exists.

That actually happened to me a couple of years ago. My account was hijacked but Ebay instantly saw what happened and froze my account. However, because of the bureaucracy it took several weeks to get it back.

It happened because I responded to a spoof ebay email that appeared genuine. We've all become wiser since then.

Speaking of spoof phishing emails, I got one from "Paypal" in which the URL of the "sign-in" page was at a URL paypal-2.com. Anyone who falls for that deserves what they get.

Yeah definitely hi-jacked. Don't know how they got in. Just waiting for ebay to restore the account but otherwise no real harm done. The moral is not to be too complacent and change my password regularly.
