ghost of miles Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 A listener recently inquired about a Gerald Wilson discography. I don't see one on Mike Fitzgerald's page, and an initial Google search turned up only relatively recent items. Any suggestions or recommendations for a decent discography? Quote
Niko Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 A listener recently inquired about a Gerald Wilson discography. I don't see one on Mike Fitzgerald's page, and an initial Google search turned up only relatively recent items. Any suggestions or recommendations for a decent discography? not a decent discography but a starting point is the contents listing of the gerald wilson mosaic http://www.mosaicrecords.com/discography.a...umber=198-MD-CD this is 60s for some 40s sessions there is the Hobart Dotson discography at jazzdiscography.com... http://www.jazzdiscography.com/Artists/Dotson/dotson.htm no idea besides allmusic.com for 50s, or a more complete listing Quote
ghost of miles Posted November 15, 2006 Author Report Posted November 15, 2006 no idea besides allmusic.com for 50s, or a more complete listing Way too obvious for a dumb smart-guy like me! That's actually perfect for the needs of this listener, a casual fan who's interested in checking out some GW sounds. I recommended the recent ARTIST SELECTS comp as a good starting point. Have sent the AMG link to her now as well. Many thanks for helping me locate the forest in the trees (or something like that). Quote
HolyStitt Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 I have been looking for a complete discography as well because the 1970s and 1980s recordings seem a little grey to me. Does anyone know much about the Discovery recordings? Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 I have been looking for a complete discography as well because the 1970s and 1980s recordings seem a little grey to me. Does anyone know much about the Discovery recordings? The Discovery albums I've seen are reissues of his World Pacific/Pacific Jazz albums. Not sure if he recorded anything especially for this label. Come to think of it, the only albums I've seen on Discovery by anyone are reissues. Quote
JSngry Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 4 albums for Discovery featuring the "Orchestra Of The '80s". Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 If you are "serious" about the music, why not buy a discography or discographies? Quote
Chas Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 If you are "serious" about the music, why not buy a discography or discographies? Yes we really should abolish this discography forum , since all available discographies are complete and error-free . Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 4 albums for Discovery featuring the "Orchestra Of The '80s". "The Orchestra of the 80s" - Now there's a scary thought, regardless of the leader...No wonder I'm so frightented of anything on that label! Quote
