Chuck Nessa Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 For further comparison and contrast in regard to Jenkins' playing... i don't know alto madness but another broadly related session which I like a lot is Paul Quinichette's "On the sunny side" which (besides Quinichette) has Jenkins in contrast to Sonny Red (so overall it's Pres Bird Bird...) (plus Curtis Fuller and a rhythm section of Mal Waldron, Doug Watkins and Ed Thipgen) That's a nice album. Interesting date but it leaves me with a lingering feeling of a bunch of guys moving in slightly different directions. Quote
bertrand Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 The other tracks on Bird Feathers were added to the albums they belonged to when these came out on CD, but the title tune was NOT added to Alto Madness. Bertrand. Quote
paul secor Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 He plays one (memorable, I think) solo on "I Got It Bad" from Archie Shepp's For Losers (also to be had in this compilation ), and is on the Clifford Jordan Big Band Mapleshade side. Jim - I thought that John Jenkins played on the Clifford Big Band Mapleshade, not Clarence Sharpe. I don't have the CD, so I may be wrong. Probably one for me to pick up, whichever altoist is on it, as I've heard good things about it. Quote

Better, I think, than the Milestone(?) side. Quote
