sonnyhill Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 Very nice date. Straight ahead without ossification. He could teach a lot of these new kids on the block a thing or two about making a solid, enjoyable album. I have to look into his other sessions on High Note. Good sound by RVG. Quote
Lazaro Vega Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 I like his version of Sam Jones' composition "Seven Minds" on this one. Quote
sonnyhill Posted November 15, 2006 Author Report Posted November 15, 2006 I heard Cedar's version of Hammerhead on the radio and made it a point to pick it up. Quote
catesta Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 Just heard some samples of this one today. Sounds like I'll need to get it. Quote
Peter Friedman Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 In my view, Cedar is one of the very best jazz piano players on the scene. He deserves a special thread devoted to his playing/ recordings. Quote
Uncle Skid Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 I really enjoy the two Astor Place releases -- Composer (1996) and Roots (1997). All songs "composed and arranged by Cedar Walton". Quote
marcello Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 (edited) Love Cedar. Some favorites are: Pit Inn Among Friends The Pentagon Edited November 26, 2006 by marcello Quote
Peter Friedman Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 Fans of Cedar Walton will want to get a copy of a really fine trio CD by Cedar on the Japanese Venus label. It ranks among my very favorite recordings by Walton. Cedar Walton Trio - Midnight Waltz - Venus TKCV-35349 with: David Williams and Jimmy Cobb Quote
sidewinder Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 I'll second 'The Pentagon' and 'Pit Inn'. Two of his best sessions ! There's one called 'As Long As There's Music' that I particularly like - recorded for Muse around 1990 I think. Really though, I don't think Cedar has ever made a bad album. Quote
Bluesman Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 I've always liked Eastern Rebellion with George Coleman on Timeless. Quote
jlhoots Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 New York Time on Chesky (C. McBride, J. Jackson, Cedar, J. Cobb) is nice. Quote
