Hardbopjazz Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 There was a TV program in the US on PBS called "SOUL". On Jan 26, 1972, this episode had Lee Morgan and Horace Silver. I would assume performing separately, but still, I would to see this. Slowly these old TV shows, Like Jazz 625 have made their way to DVD. I am only hoping this too is out there. I looked, but I didn't find anything. Quote

Andrew Hill appeared on that program: Grass Roots/Bayou Red Andrew Hill Quintet “Live on Soul” WNET TV 2/11/71 Andrew Hill, piano, Woody Shaw, trumpet Carlos Garnett, tenor sax Victor Sproles, bass Roy Haynes, drums I have an audio recording of this, you'd hope that somewhere out there someone would have a recording of the Morgan/Silver episode. Hardbopjazz Posted May 9, 2007 Author Report Posted May 9, 2007 (edited) I thought I had everything of Horace Silver and found out about this. He also did a number of appearances on the Joe Franklin show. It was an overnight talk show in NYC from the 1970s. I believe it was on from around 1 AM to 5 AM. The show was broadcasted on WWOR Channel 9. I know he was on for over 40 years. I will have to track these down. I did fine someone since I posted that has the Morgan/Silver. I will wait and hope he’ll make me at least an audio copy of that show. It is 33 minutes long. I’m not sure how much of that are them. Edited May 9, 2007 by Hardbopjazz Quote

A lot of people don't know who Joe Franklin was but they certainly know Billy Crystal's SNL impersonation. "Matzohs by Streit's -- for the unleavened experience of a lifetime." Quote
rostasi Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 I've yet to see this show available to the general public. This show and Chris Albertson's "The Jazz Set" were two shows that I absolutely lived for back in the early 70's. Sadly, neither one has been seen since those glorious days of adventurous TV (and radio!). R~~ --- Now playing: Art Pepper with Duke Jordan - All The Things You Are Quote
bertrand Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 Video exists - they showed it at the Library of Congress. I need to find out if they have the Hill; I suspect not. Not available commercially as of this writing. Bertrand. Quote
