saw this today but the 2nd 1/2 of the cd is all the stuff i already have on "big band modern"

the 1st half contains sessions from 1946-49--- now are these all GW orch sides or are they other leaders as well.....

is it worth it to get it just for 1st half of the cd-- the 40s stuff-- does any one have info on the personel and record labels for these cuts?

the 45-46 GW chron, thats way out of print, right? so if i wanna hear some early stuff this is my only option i think

has any of you bought this yet? can you tell me about the 40s cuts? recommended? etc?

one of the cuts that stood out on the clips for me was "Synthetic joe"....GOOD THIHG THATS THE ONE I HAVE ON ***78!!!!***

still very int. in hearing what you guys are sayin about the new disc......

just i just be a middle aged bearded record collector and buy it w/ the overlapping big band modern material?

are the 40s cuts found on Vol II any diff than the stuff i heard today on amazon from vol 1 (45-46?)

I haven't heard the second Classics disc, but have the first, and a cassette of the Sounds of Swing LP, and only part of that is on the first Classics.

I think all the material sounds good, although Synthetic Joe is a standout track. Some vocals, but with taste, and all kinds of things from ballads to bop.

yea, thats the one i have on 78!!!!!!!! synthetic joe! i have it on 78! b/w "moon rise" (vocal)

Moon Rise is a gorgeous vocal tune, IMO! In shellac days I would have worn that one out!

Just ordered a copy of that second CD - thanks for the hint!

I had been waiting for this to appear - Wilson's band was so great!
