Alexander Hawkins Posted November 18, 2007 Report Posted November 18, 2007 A little bit of a thorny one this - don't want to be seen to be covertly attempting an auction - but I'd really appreciate some help. I'm looking to finance rehearsal and recording of a project of mine, and I guess one of the things I could do - albeit reluctantly - is sell the very few Mosaic sets I have! I have the Mobley and Farlow, which are both readily available, so it's not really worth me selling those, but I do have the Sam Rivers, Horace Parlan, and the Byrd/Adams, which I think are all OOP. One option is ebay, I suppose, but I've not sold any of my music before, so am totally out of touch with what kind of money I could get for these...could anyone offer any advice as to what prices I might be looking at, so I can decide whether/how to sell??? A real wrench selling this stuff which I love so much, but it'll presumably come around again in some form or other at some stage, whereas I'm really keen to get this group of mine into the studio as soon as possible while the material is still fresh. Don't make me save up for it - they'll know the notes by then . Quote
Uncle Skid Posted November 18, 2007 Report Posted November 18, 2007 The Parlan set is still in print -- I've "almost" purchased that one multiple times. Quote
Van Basten II Posted November 18, 2007 Report Posted November 18, 2007 I think that good timing helps, if you're selling these at the same time than other people, you will not likely to get a inflationist spriral going on. Quote
Uncle Skid Posted November 18, 2007 Report Posted November 18, 2007 FWIW, a Rivers set sold on EBay on 11/9 for $100, "Buy it Now", without any other bids. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted November 18, 2007 Report Posted November 18, 2007 Are these vinyl or CD? Quote
Alexander Hawkins Posted November 19, 2007 Author Report Posted November 19, 2007 Clifford - they're CDs. Thanks for the tips - I had no idea that the Parlan was still in print. Oops! p.s. Uncle Skid - I haven't really monitored ebay 'dynamics' before...if it only had one bidder, does that suggest maybe the demand isn't there at the moment? Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 Whatever the price you seek, ebay will likely be your best bet. I think it represents the "true" market value of Mosaics, though it sometimes errs on the upside. Quote
Uncle Skid Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 I'm only a very occasional EBay user, but I'd assume that since the auction ended early, at the "buy it now" price, that $100 for the Rivers set was regarded as a fair price. Either that, or the bidder wanted it REALLY bad, and didn't want to compete. If you decide to list that one on EBay, you might want to try it without a "buy it now" price, with a minimum reserve of $100. Another alternative (which I may try on a few of my own Mosaics) is to list it on this board first, at a "reasonable" price. I'm also struggling with how to determine that price to make it fair to both buyer and seller. Oh, and good luck on your project! Quote
