As much as I hate the idea of buying from Lonehill, the chances of all this stuff being reissued legally here in the states is probably about as likely as George Carlin being elected president.

These all come from three Mainstream LPs from the mid-'60s, and depending on what you call "reissued", they all were

"reissued" legally, when they came out on CD in the early '90s I think. (I have the middle one, The Power Of Positive Swinging as Mainstream/Legacy JK 57117 and see a sticker on it as Best Value, so it was even budget priced).

I didn't get the other CDs when they were released around the world on various labels such as Red Lion, Fontana and Mainstream US & Japan (had 'em on LP), so I picked up the Lonehill a couple of years ago. Comparing the original Legacy CD with the Lonehill, the sound quality is the same, so guess where Lonehill got it.

There's a Lonehill discographical error on one of the sessions: on disc two, tracks 5-13 (the Gingerbread Man LP, the pianist is Hank Jones, not Roger Kellaway, who is on all the others.

(This package was released in 2005 -- how has it taken so long to be discussed?)

Oh, by the way -- LOVE the flipped negative of the cover shot, which shows both Terry and Brookmeyer as lefties.... But then, the Mainstream/Legacy CD I have uses a different picture, and it too is flipped! Maybe the photographer uses a mirror.

I sometimes hesitate to buy Lonehill releases too, but you're right, this one isn't likely to be put out by anyone else (which is the real dilemma when it comes to Lonehill and Gambit and all the rest. If you want the music, what are you going to do? ) Anyway, I bought this set over a year ago and really enjoy it.

I have the 3 studio recordings on CD. GINGERBREAD and THE POWER OF POSITIVE SWINGING are both on Mainstream. The other one titled CLARK TERRY - BOB BROOKMEYER QUINTET is on the Jazz Heritage label.

jazz heritage is a mail order music club operated by the music heritage society. as such, it reissues titles originally released on other labels. the third date included in the lonehill compilation is tonight - clark terry/bob brookmeyer quintet, which like the other two titles (gingerbread, the power of positive swinging) was released by mainstream.

And whatever happened to their Verve LP (eventually released several years after the fact)?

That was a good session, issued on Verve V6-8836 in its shortlived "Previously Unreleased Recordings" series. A live date recorded at the Half Note in 1962. I'd be *very* surprised if we ever saw it reissued by Verve. I suppose the Spaniards could do it. They'd probably call it "The Absolutely COMPLETE Verve Live 1962 Recordings of the Clark Terry Bob Brookmeyer Quintet with Eddie Costa, Joe Benjamin, and Osie Johnson at the Half Note on that particular day in that particular year"!

And I'd probably buy it.
