AndrewHill Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 (edited) Nice! Thanks for posting this! I find interesting where Hill says that we was not "satisfied with his colleague's approach to music on the group level" because everyone was playing for themselves. I would've never thought that when it came to his musical soulmates, Richard Davis and Joe Henderson! Edited March 16, 2008 by Holy Ghost Quote
JSngry Posted March 16, 2008 Author Report Posted March 16, 2008 Well, it did say "many" times, so you gotta think it's a generalization. Plus, this was still pre-"comeback" for Hill, a time when he might have still had some, for lack of a better term, "disillusionment" over having done so much and having so little materially to show for it. When you get like that, you can get dark about darn near everything... Quote

I think that's why I found this article intriguing because of the very fact that there was so little new Hill out there, if any (could Lift Every Voice be his last release when this article came out?) Hence the sour tone. Quote

connoisseur series500 Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 Reading such ariticles reminds me (though it is not stated) of how rock and roll was dominating music and was marginalizing jazz. Quote
jimi089 Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 Thanks for all these great articles! Quote
relyles Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 After seeing this over the weekend I had hoped to print out the article, but for whatever reason the image is not visible here at work. Anyone have any idea why that would be? Is there something about seetings or something I need to change? Quote
jostber Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 Thanks for that article. Another interview (with some very large pictures) with this great artist: http://adlermusic.com/C119771372/E1963307061/Media/Hill.pdf Quote
