BERIGAN Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 What's strange about that comment at the end, Conrad, is that Boston was on Kotsay's no-trade list, and they had to make a nearly $400,000 payment to get him to drop the objection. Well, it may be a product of wanting to play everyday still. The Woeful braves didn't want Kotsay to play fulltime next year. Just because he's hit for the highest average, and is the best defender as well for the braves of 2007, he'll be 33 next year and has back issues! He knows more than likely he won't be asked back next year by the sox, and may not play much the rest of this year, which will make it hard to show other teams he should be an everyday centerfielder....just guessing. Worded this poorly, but I'm tired, and want to write about other baseball stuff now....not rewrite this crapola. Don't forget, it's a package deal, you get Jamie Kotsay as well! Quote
BERIGAN Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 The Braves are right now, worse than the teams of the 80's. Everyone except backups Omar Infante and Martin Prado(Perhaps not backups anymore, they are both hitting over .300) is next to worthless with a bat in their hand. I heard that their team ERA of 6+ since the all star break, is up to this point, the worst in Major League history!!! The worst of the worst... 2nd sacker, Kelly Johnson. Still can't field the position. And as a hitter? At the end of May, he was hitting .300. Hit .250 for June, .224 for July, and .232 for August. 3 doubles are the ONLY extra base hits he has for the month of August. Wait, I lie, he got a triple last night. His slugging percentage is .312 after the triple!!!! The only person with a lower Slugging percentage in August??? Jeff Francouer, .274! He's been outhomered by Willie Harris of the Nationals! After 4 hits in the last 2 games, he has brought his August average up to .214. I think I heard the whole outfield had only 22 homers for the year, and we just traded away 6 of them. Quincy, still think you can win this pissing contest??? Quote

Big Al Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 You know it's a mediocre season when people are celebrating a sweep against the lowly Royals. Millwood throws two complete games in a row now that the games are meaningless. The Rangers may not be the worst team in the world, but they are certainly one of the most frustrating to root for! Soulstation1 Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 dodgers just got swept by the worst team in the majors i gotta have the tribe finish with a better record than the dodgers Quote
Dan Gould Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 You know, I'm supposed to be happy with two out of three in New York, and if the Yankee bats had come alive and spanked us I would have been annoyed but looked at the bright side. But the way they fucking PISSED this motherfucking game away just infuriates me. There is no fucking way on God's green earth that Okajima is supposed to face Giambi in the seventh inning. NO MOTHERFUCKING WAY. Do you expect Giambi to pinch hit for Molina with a runner at second, after the geriatric rookie got lucky after a strike three foul tip? Fine. Which lefty faces him, the soft-serving Okajima or Lester, who was dealing all day long?? You could motherfucking see that home run coming. Fucking Masterson would have been a better fucking choice. Now the motherfucking Yankees can pretend that they are still in it, and when the Blue Jays lose tonight, we fall back to 4 1/2 out of first place. With the Twins right on our tails, we cannot afford any losses of games with a two run lead with seven fucking outs to go. :rmad: :rmad: Quote
Quincy Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 (edited) Quincy, still think you can win this pissing contest??? Your rundown of the Braves does look mighty grim. But if we were to have a playoffs of sucking you guys still haven't clinched the wild card yet (you're up against whoever doesn't finish last in the Central between the Pirates & Reds.) Washington & San Diego seem to have their divisions won...er, lost. The Giants right now are too good to make such a playoff. The Mariners have a good sized lead over the Royals being 6 games "ahead" for the worst record. In a series of sucking does the worst record get home field advantage? Not sure how things work in bizarro playoffs. The A's at the moment would be wild card, and the Orioles may be last in the East but are playing .474 baseball and seem far too good. Their winning % is better than 7 National League teams. Edited August 28, 2008 by Quincy Quote

papsrus Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 (edited) Went to the Rays-Jays game Wednesday night. Good game. The people who were there were into it. But damn ... pathetic attendance. Heard on ESPN the Rays have the lowest August attendance in MLB. That's just sad. I think the sagging economy combined with a shitty ballpark in a bad location are partly to blame. They could probably promote the team better, too, with TV spots featuring local celebs like Dickie V and Hulk Hogan whipping up some excitement. But really, I got a front row seat, press box level right above the Rays dugout for $28. That's a great seat for a great price, I think. You don't have to drop $100 to go to a ballgame. Shit, I've been to movies and dropped more than $28 once you add in popcorn and watered-down soda (the biggest ripoff known to man). Anyways, just disappointed that for whatever reason, people won't go out to see a first-place team in a playoff race unless Kool and the Gang are giving a post-game concert. Weird. ... I would guess a waterfront ballpark might change that, but who knows ... EDIT: plus, now that football season is starting, I wouldn't be surprised to see interest in the Rays totally evaporate. Big Al Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 Of course, I posted the above before I opened the paper to find that the Rangers bullpen woes continued last night, as they gave up five runs in the eighth to lose the opener against the Angels. Unbelievable! Quote

Dan Gould Posted August 30, 2008 Report Posted August 30, 2008 So did the Red Sox, including some of the most important members of the ill-fated 2003 team. And as the absence of Grady Little's nightmarish incompetence helped the club in 2004, the absence of Dusty Baker's stupidity can only help this year's team. Quote

Not so strange... it's the curse of the Manbino.... still glad he's yours. Considering the winning percentage with Bay, and the way Bay has played - as many RBIs as games played - who wouldn't be glad? And it will really thrill me to no end if we do some damage in October while Manny is yelling at Boras, "why did you tell me to force a trade?" while Joe Torre is booking tee times. Quote
Dan Gould Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 What a goddamn motherfucking PISSER of a game. If they miss the playoffs by one game, this is the game down the stretch that they fucked away through frightful incompetence of hitting and umpiring (the fucking home plate umpire needs some remedial lessons on the strike zone and the fucking third base umpire should be fired for cause). papsrus Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 Rays keep rolling and the peeps are back in the park again after those pathetic crowds for the Jays and Angels. My faith is somewhat restored in the fan base and I'm looking forward to September again! Yankees on deck! Quote
jlhoots Posted September 1, 2008 Report Posted September 1, 2008 Well - I can't resist. Sabathia pitches a one hitter complete game shutout (really a no hitter if anyone saw the play). Looks like the Brewers will get the wild card. Will they catch the Cubs? Probably not, although they still have 6 games together (& I do know what happened the last time they played each other). Brewers would clearly win either of the other 2 NL divisions. Quote

Brewers would clearly win either of the other 2 NL divisions. That should definitely have been a no-hitter, IMO. Morgan was saying tonight -- and I agree with him on this -- that the first hit of the game should be a clean one. No written rule, but accepted practice. And that certainly wasn't a clean hit, from what I saw on the replays. Quote
Dan Gould Posted September 1, 2008 Report Posted September 1, 2008 Uh, sorry Brewers and Sabathia fans, but you don't get to turn something into a no-hitter after the fact. I mean, beyond the fact that the hit call is totally defensible and proper, I find it really funny that now, under these circumstances, they are begging for an error, whereas, if an error were judged the first time, they'd be bitching and moaning about the injustice of it. But most importantly, part of a no-hitter is pitching NINE FULL INNINGS without allowing a hit. Its spending the last four or five 1/2 innings all by your lonesome on the bench because your teammates are following protocol. Its the building pressure, out by out, knowing a mistake means it will all go for naught. Its hardly the same to have a fair ruling overturned after the fact, and presto chango, you just threw a no-hitter. Where ya goin', C.C.? It is analogous to the fallacy of the claim of "if we just got that guy out in the seventh inning, the game would have turned out differently." No it wouldn't, because the subsequent events are dependent on that out not being recorded. A manager might have pinch-hit someone. He might have called for a bunt, he might have done any number of things differently and therefore you can't change one event and assume that everything that happened subsequently would be the same. Quote
BERIGAN Posted September 1, 2008 Report Posted September 1, 2008 One of the camera angles they showed on baseball tonight, showed that at the moment CC grabbed the ball, Andy LaRoche was about halfway down the line. The stupid scorer should have asked for video footage of it around the 6th or 7th inning, when it clear CC wasn't going to give up another hit, and just overturned his ruling. Hits are turned into errors and vise versa all the time during games.... Quote
