Alexander Hawkins
Enjoyed watching this very much. Leroy Vinnegar is very well recorded, and is awesome! LA All-Stars
makpjazz57
Yeah, great clip - I believe I have the entire video - maybe 1/2 hour and I seem to remember Big Joe Turner singing at least once? I think this was recorded at Marla's Memory Lane in L.A. Marla (not the Marla of Marla's Memory Lane, though I did meet her)!
JSngry
The conclusion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LT_M2O5yx9w...feature=related More: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgtXXESiuus&NR=1 Yeah, I seem to remember Big Joe being in there as well. Masters at work, this is...when things reach this level, it's no longer about "music" as much as it is language. We ain't never again gonna see this particular language spoken at this level. Dan Gould
Yeah, I seem to remember Big Joe being in there as well. This was put out on LP way back when, and in 2000, Freshsound applied their business model to it: Big Joe comes out for "Shake Rattle and Roll"
Shawn
I've seen that entire performance on video (with Sangrey if I remember correctly) and it's BREATHTAKING. Jim is right about never seeing the language spoken that way again, it's faded into oblivion like an extinct species.
The Magnificent Goldberg
Yeah, I seem to remember Big Joe being in there as well. This was put out on LP way back when, and in 2000, Freshsound applied their business model to it: Big Joe comes out for "Shake Rattle and Roll" He's also on "Feelin' happy". A wonderful session. First Hamp Hawes I ever bought, back in '79. Sonny Criss' playing on "Shake rattle & roll" is just wonderful - the essence of everything - Rock & Roll, R&B, Jazz - all rolled into one. He should have been one of the most hugely popular jazz musicians of all time. MG
