JSngry Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 What album cover shows a fairly large group of people, including almost the entire staff of Riverside Records? I guess time's up for this one, too..... That's Ray Fowler (engineer) standing on the far left in grey suit. Sarah Cassey is seated, wearing an open jacket. Ken Deardoff (art dir.), Orrin Keepnews and Billie Wallington (George's wife, she was our Publicity Dir.) are also in there, somewhere, as am I (with a little girl between my legs). What kind of a record was this, Chris? I know Mason Adams as an actor/voiceover talent, but who's the other guy? Quote
Shawn Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 What 2 Blue Note albums have the same model wearing the same dress on the cover? I believe its Mustang and Let 'Em Roll Correct. Quote
Stereojack Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 What kind of a record was this, Chris? I know Mason Adams as an actor/voiceover talent, but who's the other guy? Burland was primarily known for his work in the field of jingles - also was half of the Nutty Squirrels with Don Elliott. http://www.answers.com/topic/sascha-burland Quote
JSngry Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 Sounds like an interesting guy. Quote
Christiern Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 What kind of a record was this, Chris? I know Mason Adams as an actor/voiceover talent, but who's the other guy? It was a comedy album (1961), Burland and Adams doing skits (with sound effects) that poke fun at sportscasters, record reviewers, sports car buyers, jazz arrangers, and Miles Davis ("The First Annual Modern Jazz Musicians Fashion Festival"). Pretty funny stuff, for the most part. Quote
mgraham333 Posted September 12, 2008 Author Report Posted September 12, 2008 How many exclamation points on are on the cover of Jackie McLean's "It's Time!"? 243 244 9 rows of 26 (234) plus 10 on the top row (244) makes you wonder how the settled on that number and whether there is any significance. I believe its Mustang and Let 'Em Roll Correct. wow! recorded six months apart too. Jimmy Smith is wearing the same outfit on Back at the Chicken Shack and Midnight Special but no surprise there as they were recorded together. Quote

GA Russell Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 Here GARussell is a little help with the Baja Marimba Band... you can do a quote and lift them from my post... Thanks a lot Chris! On Rides Again, it is a little difficult to see, but he is in the far background on the hill in the upper left. I'm not familiar with Those Were the Days. Apparently it was one of their last albums, from 1968 or 1969 I'm guessing. I can't see well what the guy standing up in the middle is doing, but it doesn't look to me like this cover is an example. Fresh Air may have been their last album. I sort of remember it from college. As you can see, with the later albums the band was known as "Julius Wechter and..." Anyway, I guess it's obvious when you know what you are looking for that the guy is on the upper left. The cover for For Animals Only was a cartoon, with the guy in the back on the left. The cover for Watch Out! was a copy of an advertising campaign which featured as I recall various celebrities holding up their left wrist (sort of like making a muscle) and showing their watch. In this case, each member of the band was doing that, while one guy in the back had his back to the camera with both hands raised up to show watches on both wrists. If you didn't know the joke, you wouldn't know because it didn't look like he was going to the bathroom. Thanks again, Chris! Quote

Horace Silver THE STYLINGS OF SILVER, Blue Note 1562. The Jimmy Smith is Blue Note 1563! I was going to say The Stylings of Silver but was afraid someone would come up with an earlier one! Oh me of little faith. Quote
