DMP
About 10 years ago they seemed like a semi-big deal, with claims for longevity and sound quality. Are they still around? (Other than in the cut-out bins...)

(Other than in the cut-out bins...) If you find them in the cut-out bins, grab them! Many are quite pricey these days and are often the best-sounding digital versions you can buy. mikeweil
I thinkl those labels will rather go for Hybrid SACDs right now, which are gold-plated, I think. Mobile Fidelity's recent jazz SACDs are.
RDK
Yeah, the "gold" part itself was just a marketing gimmick. Now that same gimmick is SACD and vinyl.
shaft
Yeah, many of the GOLD CDs are out of print and fetching high prices on eBay. The remastering of those CDs were often quite good and in some instances in my opinion not yet surpassed like Miles on DCC. But there are examples when they certainly do not sound better that more recent remasters on silver discs. But remember Gold is always Gold - something magic about it. As for the gold itself lasting longer I'm not sure. It sure is very thin on the CDs which are almost transparent. Sound Quality is not gaining a lot in my opinion if all.... /Shaft
