ghost of miles Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 Some of you may remember my friend, born and raised in rural Indiana, but pretty progressive/bookish/granola in his outlook, who went as a redneck for Halloween several years ago. He had really long hair at the time and gave himself a mullet as part of his look; his buddies took some pictures, one of which has become almost legendary on the Internet. Today it showed up on the Huffington Post's front page (which gets even more traffic than Drudge these days): HuffPo Scroll down and look on the righthand column for the bare-chested, grass-chewin' hillbilly leaning back against a pickup truck. Here's the story to which they're linking. Quote
ghost of miles Posted October 31, 2008 Author Report Posted October 31, 2008 He's really gotten some mileage out of that photo, but this is the biggest splash yet. Here's the pic, for those who don't want to follow the link: The caption under it at 23/6 reads, "Wants to hear more about the issues." Quote
7/4 Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 I get a kick out of the choices: Confused about whether Obama is a marxist, a communist or a socialist. Quote
DTMX Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 Wow, I've seen that picture about a million times; never knew the story behind it. Quote

He works as a rare-books specialist at the Lilly Library here in Bloomington, just across the street from the radio station where I work. Great guy. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 HA! I had no idea they animated Get Your War On. That is some funny stuff! Quote
GA Russell Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 About a month ago I read an Ann Coulter column in which she said that there are three types of voters in America - liberals, conservatives and idiots. The idiots are the people who aren't sure whether they are liberal or conservative, and could vote either way! Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Not surprised that it's a stereotype perpetrated by a library worker, by co-workers at the multnomah county library are the most class-biased of anywhere I've ever worked, more so than construction or cabbies. Quote

He grew up in that very climate--he's a product of it. I think it's more class-biased to assume that a progressive, bookish, granola kind of guy can't come out of such an environment. Quote
The Red Menace Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 (edited) I get a kick out of the choices: Confused about whether Obama is a marxist, a communist or a socialist. Bah!!! He is a stinking no-good center-leaning conciliatory liberal-type who certainly can't be counted on for purges, re-education camps, collectivization of the farming system and government-induced famines, or any of the other superlative achievements of my beloved and quite late Uncle Joe. I am the expert on all things red around this forum, and to me this fellow looks like a fine candidate for a certain gubernatorial position in Alaska come 2010. Of course in such case he may want to put on a shirt!!! But I must confess that I am ultimately at a loss to make head or tail out of all this and fear that I must call in my esteemed colleague: Quote

The idiots are the people who aren't sure whether they are liberal or conservative, and could vote either way! For some reason, this brought to mind a radio station manager I once had who always said "You have two choices, yes or no", and would get pissed off when I claimed that was ONE choice. I chose to leave. Quote
Tom Storer Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 And I'm sure your manager was glad to see you go! Quote
