The Magnificent Goldberg Posted November 18, 2008 Report Posted November 18, 2008 Concord have 3 Palmieri CDs and I'm thinking of getting one in the sale, as I really love Harlem River Drive. But which to get? Listen here Ritmo caliente La perfecta II I don't want to start by buying a compilation so, if any of these are compilations, please let me know and I can eliminate them. MG Quote
JSngry Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 My advice would be to go back & get The Sun Of Latin Music & Unfinished Masterpiece. They're not on Concord & they're (probably) not on sale anywhere, but afaic, they're Palmieri's creative, musical, and conceptual peaks. Great, great music, larger than life, but really life-sized if you got the right kind of life, if you know what I mean. Harlem River Drive, fwiw, was a bit of an anomaly for Palmieri overall. But Sentido, the album before The Sun Of Latin Music, cut for the same label, is more in that vein than most of his albums. Not exactly an answer to your question, but... Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted November 19, 2008 Author Report Posted November 19, 2008 Thanks Jim. I'm not going to get any Palmieri in this sale. I compared prices with Amazon UK and "Ritmo Caliente" is on sale here for an absolute steal! So I'll be ordering that later today. While I do, I'll see if any of those others are gettable. MG Quote
Stefan Wood Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 La Perfecta II is mandatory. The others less so. Quote
Hot Ptah Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 Do you have "Palmas"? Not on Concord, but really good, in my humble opinion. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted November 19, 2008 Author Report Posted November 19, 2008 La Perfecta II is mandatory. The others less so. Ah, that one's not on Amazon UK. And I didn't include it in the Concord order. Oh well, we'll see. MG Quote
Cali Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 Of the three albums in question, I have only heard LISTEN HERE, and I like it a lot. Another great album IMO is the one he made with Cal Tjader on Verve, EL SONIDO NUEVO. Quote
rpklich Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 I have all three. I like La Perfecta II best of the three Concords. You can't go wrong with any Eddie. I agree with J Sngry's picks overall, but would also throw in Palo Pa' Rumba as well. Quote
JSngry Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 La Perfecta II is mandatory. The others less so. And that one less so (only somewhat) if you have albums by the original La Perfecta lineup. Quote
Dan Gould Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Do you have "Palmas"? Not on Concord, but really good, in my humble opinion. Agreed, and it was listed in my Stupendous Sale without any takers. Quote
