Clunky Posted May 8, 2009 Report Posted May 8, 2009 Fantastic music , I guess it's jazz but with a health dose of blues in its soul. Sad and joyous , wonderfully recorded. Quote
Alexander Posted May 8, 2009 Report Posted May 8, 2009 Yep. Great stuff! A friend of mine is disappointed that Toussaint doesn't sing more on the album, and I suppose he has a point. I'm just enjoying it so much for what it is, I haven't really had time to miss what it isn't! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted May 8, 2009 Report Posted May 8, 2009 Attended a great Toussaint show at the Village Gate with Dr. John and Fathead. Must have been around 1980. Quote

I'm just enjoying it so much for what it is, I haven't really had time to miss what it isn't! I haven't heard the new recording, but I never thought much of Toussaint as a vocalist. He's a composer/arranger/instrumentalist in my book. The fact that his vocals are not featured would be a plus for me if I decide to pick it up. Quote
Stereojack Posted May 8, 2009 Report Posted May 8, 2009 The album is not what I expected - mostly instrumental, leaning towards traditional jazz, but with enough of Allen's unique piano style to make it personal. Quote
