GA Russell Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 I remember him! There was something distinctive about him that made him stand out as a character actor. RIP Quote
Jazzmoose Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 I thought he was the guy who came up with the free postage for congressmen scheme... Quote
BruceH Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 Frank Aletter I have a vague memory of that show. Quote
BruceH Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 So he was married to Lee Meriwether. Hmmmmm..... Lucky guy. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 So he was married to Lee Meriwether. Hmmmmm..... Lucky guy. Possibly not as lucky as some poor schlub who just boinked her. Quote
JSngry Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 (edited) I've long wondered how Imogene Coco & Joe E. Lewis handled each others' presence on the set of that show.... Edited May 15, 2009 by JSngry Quote
rostasi Posted May 16, 2009 Author Report Posted May 16, 2009 You mean "ooh, ooh" Ross dontcha? You have to say that each had a very unique (i.e. unforgettable) personality! Quote
JSngry Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 oh hell yeah, Ross, not Lewis. and it's Coca, not coco. DUH. per http://classicshowbiz.blogspot.com/2008/03...be-allowed.html : Joe E. Ross was, by most accounts, a difficult man, not particularly polite, and extremely rough around the edges. He wasn't what you'd call "Hollywood." He probably had more relationships with prostitutes than any other sitcom star and unlike New York politicians, this wasn't something he was embarrassed about, but flaunted. He even showed up at things like The Emmys with a lady of the night on his arm. It is not known the exact number of times he was married, but it was at least ten and probably more. He wasn't known to treat his ladies well. per: http://www.nydailynews.com/archives/entert...it_caesar_.html One day she (Coca) would cheerfully say she was almost neurotically introverted - afraid of elevators, afraid to drive, afraid of taxicabs. "Taxi drivers are on a suicide mission," she would say. "And they want to take someone with them." The next day, she would just as cheerfully wonder where anyone got the idea she was this shy little thing who was afraid of her own shadow. Honestly! Now doesn't that sound like a fun pairing?!?!?! rostasi Posted May 16, 2009 Author Report Posted May 16, 2009 Apparently, nobody liked him. • "I believe it was Mark Evanier who told the story of once asking Imogene Coca (Ross' co-star in IT'S ABOUT TIME) to comment on Joe E. Ross and she simply replied in her inimitable way, 'That DREADFUL man!'" • "TV GUIDE's Web site once detailed how much Ross and Car 54 co-star Fred Gwynne despised each other. I can imagine, considering Ross's hard-boiled nature compared to Gwynne's refined, almost blue-blood nature." oh, sheesh... Quote
