Ken Dryden Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 Gene Harris told me that he got fed up with playing that style of music, that's why he retired to Boise for a few years before returning to play acoustic piano for the rest of his life. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted June 17, 2009 Author Report Posted June 17, 2009 well thats great he had a personal revelation but this lp is still kickin' it: im telling you! is this then, his LAST funk lp b4 going back to piano? side 1 just ended and it was a killer! although that IS interesting, ken dreyden Quote
JSngry Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 well thats great he had a personal revelation but this lp is still kickin' it: Quote of the year! Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted June 17, 2009 Author Report Posted June 17, 2009 side 2= very acoustic so far Quote
Dan Gould Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 If you like the shit he recorded for Blue Note in the mid-70s, then you'll love the crap Chewy is jizzing over. Otherwise the only listenable part of this record is the "very accoustic" side 2 - Hymn to Freedom in particular is very fine. The rest of it sucks donkey dicks. Quote
JSngry Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 I do like a little bity of that stuff. Dislike a lot of it. Which is this, the stuff I like or the stuff I don't? Quote

Good! I'm glad to hear this. I never could get with the commercial mindless Ramsey Lewis funk type of playing. It's like seeing a renowned and skilled heart surgeon step down to emptying bed pans, changing bed sheets and bringing meals on trays. I like a number of the Gene Harris and The Three Sounds early Blue Note recordings. I have no use for grade "C" for profit music. Sorry.... Quote
Ken Dryden Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 I have no use for commercial mindless funk either. There was too much of it in the 1970s posing as jazz. Quote
JSngry Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 Just as there's always been a lot of commercial mindless jazz posing as "real jazz"... Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted June 21, 2009 Author Report Posted June 21, 2009 whats so "grade-C" about groovin'? i dont get you guys at all Quote
JSngry Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 When it comes to "getting it", Aric, I don't think you need to be concerned. Quote
