Yeah, I thought early in the second set that if Roddick keeps serving like he is and Roger keeps missing forehands like he is, Fed is going to have a disappointing day.

Now a fifth set, no tie-breaker, and Federer hasn't broken him all day. I really thought he had an opportunity to extend the fourth set there. Now he has to do it in the fifth or this grand slam chance will slip away.

IMO

The few years it took Federer to win all these majors is very very impressive

This was Roddicks 4 lost to him in a GS Final, thats gotta sting

It seems to me if Roddick plays his A game, Federer plays his A plus game

This was the first year I didn't see any live action only saw hi-lights on the news

Major bummer

Great moment today, with Sampras Bjorg and Laver there to pose with RFed's trophy. Agassi presenting the French title was special enough, but today though, was way more special, especially with Pete showing up. What a great match and what an effort by Roddick too, who gave Roger a run for his money today.

So Roger has the most single grand slam titles, he's number one in the world again....yeah what a great day for the greatest tennis player of all time.

Roddick played the game of his life today, had his serve broke ONCE all day and loses. Anybody not named Federer or Nadal who had to play Roddick today would have lost in 3 or 4 sets. Roddick was amazing, I feel sorry for the guy.

Roger with 50 aces! Damn, what a great match today. To have today after last years final, just wow.

Yeah, I felt his pain. You saw it when he dropped his racket, you saw it in his eyes, you saw it after competing as long as he did to watch it all slip through his fingers. It was hard to watch, but one thing for certian is that my respect for Roddick's game has skyrocketed. What a great competitor he has become!

I don't think I have ever felt as sorry for anyone in any sport as I did for Roddick today. The guy must be going through hell, how can you play over 4 hours of tennis against Federer, have your serve broken just once and still lose. Has that ever happened before??? I think it was harder losing the way he did than if he had been just hammered in straight sets, I mean he was playing probably a perfect game and still lost. He also fought tooth and nail just to get to the final as well, while Federer just had some practise games. I have massive respect for the guy, both of them really, they don't play to the crowd either, they just get on with it, what a match.

Exactly. Roddick doesn't have the clout or the titles, but Jesus does he have the soul. I felt that all the way through the end of the fifth set. He brought his A game today and put Federer on the fence and he got broken, like you said "once", and that cost him the match. But like I said to a friend yesterday, Roddick was going to be out in straights, and man, was I glad to be proven wrong! Roddick's the man! He gave Roger everything he had today and he has nothing to be ashamed about! Andy should be just as proud today of his performance as Roger!

Where would John McEnroe stand if he would have remained focused on tennis?

IMO

Where did McEnroe lose focus?

IDK. Jimmy Connors was his rival at the time. I'd say whether focused or not, he'd stand where he stands today, and that's not to say that McEnroe isn't a great. He is. Period. Connors was his "Nadal" at the time and Connors was great on grass and the hard court and McEnroe never won easy on these surfaces if he had to face him. I don't think either won on clay so that's where their rivalry was. And it is what it is. I just don't know what you mean by losing focus, I guess.

Just a quick note that Lendl and Bjorg were his other "headaches" too along with Connors.

McEnroe never won another Major after he took his break from tennis

IMO

Oh I see. Ok, fair enough. In fact that epic US Open match comes to mind when McEnroe was on the "rise" again. Now that WAS the match of the early 90's! :excited:
