I saw something about this on CNN's website or something but hadn't bothered to look at it. At least the little girls don't strap on some ginormous fake boobs; only fake nipples.

Seriously f-ed up, if you ask me.

These speculations sour in the sun.

I have no daughter; I desire none.

I have a daughter.

And I think this is just disgusting; a pedophile's idea of a child's doll.

While it's natural for little girls to want to pretend to be a mom, I don't see why it's necessary to have a doll that makes all the noises (not to mention the "apron"). Kids have very vivid imaginations. They can make all the noises themselves and be perfectly happy.

It's a stupid toy, imo.

They've had dolls that eat and piss for years; what's so out of the ordinary about this? The whole point of this thing is that little girls want to be like mommy; if mommy breastfeeds rather than grabs a bottle, this makes sense. I can see Jim's complaint (it's stupid and unnecessary), but those of you who are saying it's sick, I'd like to see an explanation of why you feel that way. I mean, is it really the toy that's sick?

The toy makes a six year old girl into a lactating woman. I don't think that's quite normal, but then again I did say that at least she only straps on pretend nipples, not giant pretend breasts.

But let me ask you, Mark: What if the toy did come with a device that a six year old puts on so that she now has huge lactating breasts to hold her doll up against? Would that be OK to you?

Seems to me that the company probably started out with that option and then decided its better to just strap on pretend nipples, don't push the transformative aspect of the doll too far.

No, I think you're right; this is the best approach.

I know if I try to make this a seperate post the software will combine it, so I'll just say that the rest of this is not in response to Dan, but to everyone on the thread:

Seriously, I think what the issue here is that you people have serious issues with breastfeeding. If the doll made these noises with a bottle, I doubt it would bother you at all. It's this conditioning we have in our culture that somehow breasts are for sex rather than nurturing children that is the problem.

Hopefully, Rachel, seeline, Maren, etc., will step in here and tell me I'm full of shit so I can just STFU... :g

I don't think any "offensiveness" has anything to do with breast-feeding per se but with the idea of "sexualizing" young girls by giving them fake breasts in the first place (even if they aren't breasts but only fake nipples). At least that's how I responded to it as someone who likes breasts, condones breast-feeding, and has two young girls at home.

No, I would not buy this product for my daughter or granddaughter. Next thing you know they'll be wanting to know how to cook dinner, do the laundry and cut the lawn ........................... wait.
