papsrus Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 Nothing wrong with unwinding to some Mingus Oh yeah. There's really a different vibe to listening to music very late at night. The sound in the night and all that. Everything seems just a little sharper. Have Adderley's "Somethin' Else" on now. Beautiful. Quote
GA Russell Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 It's time to get ready for bed here. I'm unwinding to Groovadelphia. Quote
AndrewHill Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 Still up Doesn't help that I have the next two days off. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted September 4, 2009 Report Posted September 4, 2009 Sitting here at almost 3AM surfing with The Psychedelic Furs keeping me company. This time I have the next two days off; I see a sunrise in my future... Quote
papsrus Posted September 4, 2009 Report Posted September 4, 2009 Why can I only find this thread at noon? (miscellaneous, non-political; miscellaneous, non-political; miscellaneous, non-political ... got it.) Quote

This time I have the next two days off; I see a sunrise in my future... Which Furs? I was revisiting some of their early catalogue the other day... Was up at 4 this a.m. but didn't go online...had to work on a book review for a local magazine. Quote

ghost of miles Posted September 5, 2009 Author Report Posted September 5, 2009 Don't know that album. (just kidding ) Not quite midnight yet, but I'm still up, working on some Night Lights/Afterglow stuff, and gritting my teeth over our noisy new undergrad neighbors. Quote
AndrewHill Posted September 5, 2009 Report Posted September 5, 2009 Looks like I'm going to be up watching tennis for awhile. Quote
GA Russell Posted September 5, 2009 Report Posted September 5, 2009 It's halftime at the Als-Lions game. BC is leading 10-7 in something of a surprise. The Als are the best team in the league, and the Lions have been struggling. But the Als haven't won in Vancouver since 2000! http://www.cjad.com/ Quote
Jazzmoose Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 Just finished dinner; now listening to music and trying to keep my feet still. It's not working... Quote
AndrewHill Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 Up tonight foolin' around at Organissimo Quote
jeffcrom Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 At the age of 50, I'm not the night owl I once was. But I still have trouble coming down after an intense gig or an intense show as a listener, and tonight I went from one to the other - 4th Ward Afro-Klezmer Orchestra to The Shaking Ray Levis. So at 1:00 AM I'm having one beer too many and listening to old Atlanta blues in an attempt to wind down. Quote
Matthew Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 (edited) *Sigh* I envy people who can sleep straight through the night. Right now, thanks to Dave James, I'm listening to the Beatles Decca audition via You Tube. Edited September 20, 2009 by Matthew Quote

Right now, thanks to Dave James, I'm listening to the Beatles Decca audition via You Tube. I've been staying up later and later lately. Often get off work after midnight to begin with. I've seen 4 a.m. come and go a couple of times this past week. And then it's not unusual for me to be up by about 9 a.m., sometimes earlier. Sometimes 7! If I get 6 hours a night, I'm OK. If not, there's going to be a massive 9 - 10 hour coma spliced into the week somewhere to deal with what amounts to accumulated exhaustion. :eye: Edited September 20, 2009 by papsrus Quote
papsrus Posted September 21, 2009 Report Posted September 21, 2009 Awww-righty. It's 12:40-ish. I'm really into the Miles Davis 65-68 box. Disc 3, which kicks off with Nefertiti. Brilliant. This band is outrageous. I might be up late tonight listening to this. Quote

Brilliant. This band is outrageous. I might be up late tonight listening to this. Just about all Miles makes for great late-night listening, but the 65-68 box might be one of the best periods for such a time. A bit bleary-eyed today, as I was up past midnight and beyond last night, finishing a Night Lights show and watching President Obama on David Letterman. Nice to have all the windows open late on an autumn evening. Quote

Matthew Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 (edited) This time I'm up because it's not that I can't sleep, it's because my shuttle is coming at 3:45 a.m. to pick me up. I hate early flights. The upside however, is that I'm going to Washington & Oregon for two weeks on business, and I love the Pacific Northwest. Edited October 12, 2009 by Matthew Quote
ghost of miles Posted October 18, 2009 Author Report Posted October 18, 2009 That 13-inning epic Angels-Yankees game kept me up till about 1:15 in the morning, and now I can't get to sleep... so working on a Clare Fischer Night Lights show, contemplating reading some more of the Monk bio (I keep sneaking in a few pages here and there--really hooked on it). ghost of miles Posted October 21, 2009 Author Report Posted October 21, 2009 ...and up again following a late-night ALCS game--reading, appropriately enough, about Monk and "Round Midnight" from the new Robin D.G. Kelley biography. Quote
