Featuring, of course, the classic Coltrane/Hartman album, but also music from other dates Hartman did for the label, as well as recordings from Jackie Paris, Lorez Alexandria, and Freda Payne:

Impulse: the Vocal Sides

...also a couple of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross sides thrown in for good measure, since their 1957 ABC-Paramount album helped inspire the label's birth and was also reissued on Impulse in 1965.

The Freda Payne side was a very pleasant surprise to me!

But what's this? No Beverly Jenkins?

No Alarums and Excursions by Michael Brown?

No Morality by Oscar Brand?

Maybe next time...or not. :g

Great stuff!

The Hartman/Coltrane is a favorite. I had an ex who hated it. That is why she's an ex, I guess.

That Billy Eckstein-derived style of singing hasn't been in fashion for a very long time, but Hartman does it superbly!

Yes, nice listening! About time I added the Hartman/Coltrane to my collection!

Surprised to hear you don't own this one already, Bill. It's definitely worth adding to the collection.
