Saw this in the NYT yesterday. Even though I was never much into folk, I appreciated PP&M not as much for their music as their political presence. They were early supporters of the civil rights movement and early opponents of the war...and not in a passive way. Their music was what it was, although I confess a lingering fondness for "Leaving On A Jet Plane". Also, know this. Without "Puff The Magic Dragon", we all would have been deprived of one of the best scenes in the movie, 'Meet The Parents".

RIP, Mary. You were a good person.

Up over and out.

I once met a British couple who had two little sons named Peter and Paul. They told me their friends always made the joke that whenever they had a third child and it was a daughter, they would have to call her Mary ...

Not too much of a folk fan but their songs were played on the radio over here all the time, and they were quite listenable. R.I.P.
