I've come across vinyl reissues on this label from the 70s and/or 80s. I think everything I've seen is stuff from Warner/Reprise releases.

Did they reissue stuff from other labels? Are the pressings good or at least acceptable? The cover art seems like faded repros of the originals with Discovery's 70s-looking logo slapped on in a very intrusive sort of way.

While the covers can vary, the pressings are usually very good. Warner/Reprise seems to be the main source, but there are other sessions produced by Albert Marx (owner of Discovery/Trend) that were originally issued on Cadence, Atlantic, and other labels. Marx may have retained ownership of those masters.

I have a Paul Desmond lp East of the Sun on the label which is a reissue of the "First Place Again" Warner Brothers lp. I bought it on line after owning the WB title not knowing it was the same album until it arrived. I decided to not return it so I play it from time to time. The record is dead quiet, the slab is thinner than the WB pressing and the cover attractive. If all their reissues are like this one I wouldn't hesitate to buy one if the original wasn't available or if it was too pricey.

My copy of Duke's "Afro Bossa" is a stereo Reprise from (presumably) the 70s. After reading the responses, I picked up the Discovery for pretty cheap so I bought it and compared. The Discovery is less flimsy, and curiously, they compacted the grooves a little bit more so the final tracks aren't as close to the center. There seems to be less distortion on the Discovery. The Reprise isn't bad but it's nothing great. Thanks all for the input.

Whatever happened to the Trend/Discovery catalogue? I presume Albert Marx is no longer with us, so is there any hope some of this might ever be reissued? I have some of his LPs and CDs, and always found they were very good ...
