ghost of miles Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 I don't believe it's available online, but well worth checking out if any record store/book shop near you stocks recent issues of The Wire. Here are some sample tracks from the artists the article covers, posted at the magazine's website: playlist Quote

Head Man Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 6 feet under? Not unless it happened when I was away on vacation last week! Quote
sidewinder Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 (edited) It's a very good article - picked up a copy when it came out (I think Roger Farbey gave the heads up). The recommendations are good ones (Rendell/Carr, Henry Lowther, Harry Beckett, Mike Westbrook) and as representative list for that period as I've seen anywhere. Excellent primer - and worth reading along with Ian Carr's 'Music Outside' on Northway Books. Where's John Dankworth? This covers the period of late 60s/early to mid 70s. John Dankworth was mainly doing studio/film work over that period so I guess not included. His 1967 collaboration with Kenny Wheeler (Windmill Tilter) would deserve inclusion though. I'm glad to say that JD is still actively gigging over here, as is Dame Cleo. National Institutions ! Edited October 6, 2009 by sidewinder Quote
sidewinder Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 These ones on the 'reserve' list would be in my 1st division: Mike Taylor Pendulum (1966) (Sunbeam CD) Mike Taylor Trio Trio (1967) Impressed Re-pressed CD (deleted) Kenny Wheeler Windmill Tilter (1968) Unissued on CD Amancio d’Silva & Joe Harriott (feat Ian Carr, Norma Winstone) Hum-Dono (1969) Unissued on CD Quote
AllenLowe Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 sorry, thought Dankworth had died - Quote
