Well I went for the Cat Scan and the good news is every turns out to be normal. The question of the enlargened aeorta, turns out to be nothing. It is normal. Everything looked good. I was very fortunate to know the doctor there who went over the results shortly after the scan. I've known her for years from the local gym I work out at. She took the time to show me the results and that made me feel much more at ease. As for the cough, I discussed that with her and she doesn't really think it's that big of a deal from viewing the test results. I started out some 8 almost 9 weeks ago with a head cold which quickly blossomed into a cough, which was followed weeks later with an episode of the swine flu which worsened the cough, to only now with the use of the inhaler seems to be improving things. She felt I really haven't had the opportunity to fully heal. At this point, whatever happens in the next 2 weeks will determine where things head. I have to go back to my doctor for a followup and he'll decide what if any further treatment is required. Hopefully not.

I do a certain amount of endurance sport. It leaves you open to this kind of thing. It's frustrating but par for the course and we bring it on ourselves, not least when we don't hold off training when we should know better. Probably you have been doing better than me (we're the same age) on infections etc. so maybe this is just a catch up!

Great news Tom! :excited: I was going to mention(and forgot to) that I have issues with coughing long after a cold/flu goes away. And I go above and beyond the normal effort to get rid of the junk in my sinuses and lungs...and really doesn't solve the problem. And it really makes it hard to get to sleep when this is going on. Anyway, one time I went to the doctors office, he wasn't in that day. A P.A. looked at my throat, said yeah, had a lot of drainage. I said, really??? I don't notice that feeling at all. She said it was just much thicker, and you can't really feel it. Oh....So, instead of taking stuff to cough up my lungs, like I always have, I took Maxifed which helps dry stuff up. Really worked like a charm. Had samples, and next time I got sick, took that, and it really shortened the lingering cough from the typcial 3-6 weeks, to just a week after I got over the cold. Sure seemed counter everything I was told to do, and had done in the past.

Maxifed did what over the counter stuff never really did either...anyway, if the cough lingers, you might ask for that pill and see if it works.

well, I can officially report that I haven't had a cough in two days - though mine only lasted three weeks.

We're pulling for you, Tom. Throw down those crutches and clear your throat!

I think you've hit upon something, David. I guess it would have been a smart decision for me to have stopped biking for awhile. I might have gotten over this nonsense much sooner. You just get into this mindset, right or wrong that I'm going to work myself through this and you end up making things worse for yourself. You hate missing any time whether it's in the gym or out on the road. Hopefully I'll learn something. Then again, maybe not? I would like to thank everyone for there good thoughts here the past few days. It's much appreciated. I'm glad things are ok, especially with the aeorta thing. That kind of freaked me abit. Now, I just gotta get better with this cough. Thanks to Alan for his good humor. His last post really made me laugh and I didn't cough once.

Sorry to read all this, but glad it seems to ease up after all!

Working for the post, do you often experience things as described in here:

Flurin, you'd think this book would be mandatory reading for all postal workers. In all honesty, I've never read the book. But based on the many glowing reviews on Amazon, I really should pick this up. Sounds like a very interesting read to say the least.

Tom - Having worked for the postal service (like you) and having read the book, I think you'll find a lot to identify with. Bukowski (Chinaski) may be an extreme case, but the book has a lot of hilarious truth to it.

I've never worked for the postal service, but I remember the book as exciting (yes, stimulating as well, as usual with Bukowski), amusing, depressing, and very funny... sort of a roller coaster, I guess, but well worth reading. I guess I should buy me a copy and re-read it, too!

Glad everything is cool

Me, too.

A month ago, I had tests and an x-ray to check my cough, too. I came out OK...but it still scares the shit out of me.

You see, my mother had that same cough and went undiagnosed for years untill the cancer she had already took over her entire body. It was too late once they discovered it. She died five years later.

So, I am very glad the tests turned out to be in your favor, Tom.
